Hadn't listened to them in a while, but am now remembering how great some of the singles were.

My OPO is "Let Your Body Learn". It had (still has) totally danceability and circa 1989 my girlfriend and I had more than one intoxicant-induced, unintentionally hilarious discussion over what the terribly misheard chorus of "boys have one, girls have three" was talking about.

the song that goes..."whether you are glad, sad or mad".....ROFFLE CHOPPA!

They are/were ridiculous.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"Control, I'm Here"

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

They are/were ridiculous.

In an awesome way, right?

rainman (rainman), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

totally!

ddb (ddb), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"ONE STEP...TWOOOO STEPS, GETTING CLOSER!"

But "Fun to be Had" is right up there too.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

You are all wrong.

FORCE IS MACHINE (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

no contest - murderous.

WHERE IS THE YOUTH?

stirmonster, Friday, 11 June 2004 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd go with the Hypersonic mix of "Hearts and Minds"...

Sean Thomas (sgthomas), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

You are all wrong.

stirmonster, Friday, 11 June 2004 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I only have one thig to say to you, stirmonster

FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE AAUGH (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"Join in the Chant"

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

"Family Man" was a favourite when I was a wee lad.

Ian Beverly (Eastern Mantra), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I recently played their first three records and I'd have to say that "Drive" (from Belief) has aged better than anything from their other albums.

jsoulja (jsoulja), Friday, 11 June 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"Murderous" and "Hearts and Minds" would be fine choices in a world where "LIGHTNING MAN" didn't exist.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Friday, 11 June 2004 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

"Ascend" dude!

I have the double pack 10". There are like 6 mixes of it or something. One of them is good.

Jacob (Jacob), Friday, 11 June 2004 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll second "Join in the Chant"
MUSCLE!!!!! HATE!!!!!!

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Friday, 11 June 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha, apparently I am too subtle.

GUNS GUNS GUNS GUNS (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 June 2004 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

much too subtle

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Friday, 11 June 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

"Shame"

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 11 June 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

For one night only at Der Blau Engel, the Weimar Republic's finest leather bar! Berthold Brecht and his band will be joined on stage by Bathory and Vince Clarke for a performance of Der Blitzen Mensch, their toe-tapping new "jazz" tune!

Icing on your cake:
'Cause I knew you were coming
I COOKED YOUR GOOSE!

Palomino (Palomino), Friday, 11 June 2004 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

You just don't get angry you men shouting over stridently marching rhythms and one-bar acid synth wobble basslines any more. They were perhaps the last of their kind. 'Join in the Chant', 'Getting Closer' and 'Control I'm Here' for me. Funniest filmclip - 'Fun To Be Had'.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 11 June 2004 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

("My Heart" is secretly their second-best song.)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 June 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course lurking behind all this is the truer question -- "Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft, OPO" -- but for all that Nitzer Ebb really was only a transposition of DAF into the English language, it was a great one with particular flourishes of its own.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 June 2004 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Well if we're going *there*, I may have to change my vote to "Verschwende Deine Jugend"! Curse you, Raggett!

Sean Thomas (sgthomas), Saturday, 12 June 2004 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

(haha and while we're at it, we should totally roll this into the Blackstrobe/Ivan Smagghe threads!)

Sean Thomas (sgthomas), Saturday, 12 June 2004 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

thing is, a DAF OPO would be impossible.

am currently listening to their 2003 comeback lp. hmmmmmm..........

stirmonster, Saturday, 12 June 2004 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

DANZ DER MUSSOLINI!
