C/D - Threads promoting NYC noise/avant garde shows

I'm all for them -- I love the creative band names and excellent accompanying photos that are always in there. And as an ex-New Yorker who misses seeing shows in the city, I get a vicarious kick out of them.
On a practical level, though, they don't do me any good - And everyone who posts in there seems to know each other.
Anyways, they are an ILM mainstay, so I ask you - C/D?

Neb Reyob (Ben Boyer), Friday, 11 June 2004 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm afraid they have to be classic. :(

Ian c=====8 (orion), Friday, 11 June 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

NOT TRUE. I post in those and I'm in California just like you.

CLASSIC: For picture thread potential / Matos racial hatred.

DUD: Endless BURRITOVILLE propaganda.

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 11 June 2004 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

yea dude, PROVIDENCE has better burritos I hear

Jon in R'lyeh (ex machina), Friday, 11 June 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

dean, you have broken my heart

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 11 June 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

You guys were getting a bit ghey over the 'Ville, Cuttsey.

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 11 June 2004 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos Racial Hatred would be a great name for one of the bands on this type of bill.

Neb Reyob (Ben Boyer), Friday, 11 June 2004 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I was wondering what people thought about them. I obviously don't mind, as I know half of the people involved and have been promoted myself, but I've definately been on other forums/lists that are international and had to moderate out all sorts of local posts.

Maybe non-ny'ers don't mind so long as the shows involve ilm approved music?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 11 June 2004 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the Burritoville chatter.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 11 June 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

dan i'm afraid you are a pathological misspeller of the word "definitely"

oh and that was an ilitch song last nite, "waiting for mabelle"

duke dictionaire, Friday, 11 June 2004 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

perhaps unfortunately because I was out tonight I do not know any of you fuckers

autovac (autovac), Saturday, 12 June 2004 06:46 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I want a burrito!

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

AdamL do you eat soy-based products?

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Sometimes I actually do, yes!

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm on the fence regarding these threads and i feel guilty about it.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

and burritoville is just OKAY

*ducks*

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

how does it compare to the best mexican restaurant in koreatown?

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

beats the pantalones off of it, actually!

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

that's sad to hear.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Both the Best Mexican Restaurant in Koreatown and the Best Mexican Restaurant in LA County kick Burritoville up and down the street. This is an incontrovertable fact.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

c'mon nobody's claiming B'ville's the best burritos 'round town, just the best quick lunch thing.

c'mon you know you love (these threads).

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

burritoville is NOT a restaurant!

you stand and wait for your burrito. they give you free chips and stuff.

i don't think we ever compared it to a real restaurant.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

c'mon nobody's claiming B'ville's the best burritos 'round town, just the best quick lunch thing.

Every mediocre "quick lunch thing" you eat means that's one less great lunch thing you could have had.

Note that "great lunch thing" here does not equate to something complex and expensive.

c'mon you know you love (these threads).

Of course I do, I'm a food snob!

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it as good as Cancun?

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost - dude if you're suggesting I should eat at Les Halles every day I suggest you get a clue as to NYC rental prices. Even eating at Burritoville is stretching it for me.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't think we ever compared it to a real restaurant.

The Best Taco in Los Angeles does not come from a restaurant either.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

cutty:burritoville::hstencil:mayonnaise?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i was psyched on my $3 falafel cart lunch today. burritoville is $7+

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost - dude if you're suggesting I should eat at Les Halles every day I suggest you get a clue as to NYC rental prices. Even eating at Burritoville is stretching it for me.

What part of "Note that "great lunch thing" here does not equate to something complex and expensive" didn't you read?

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

x-post

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost to cutty - I went to the other felafel cart, not remembering that it's not as good.

double xpost - what part of Burritoville is cheapest option around my office that's not shitty pizza don't y'all understand?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

even a swiss-on-rye sammich + Coke at a deli across the street is more expensive than Burritoville.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

what part of Burritoville is cheapest option around my office that's not shitty pizza don't y'all understand?

aside from felafel cart, natch.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

"perhaps unfortunately because I was out tonight I do not know any of you fuckers"

no you'll never see me out

duke cerebrate, Monday, 14 June 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

but we can see you at OTHER MUSIC right? Where's my CLUSTER II?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 14 June 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

(xpost) yeah, that part of downtown really sucks for food. the options are limited if you don't want to spend $$$.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

also, if you don't want to get botulism...

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

"Where's my CLUSTER II?"

at my house. i'll pass it through the mail slot. but don't look at me...don't look! aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh

duke look, Monday, 14 June 2004 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Taco Loco, dudes.

sexyDancer, Monday, 14 June 2004 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a pretty good selection of lunch places downtown in the Financial District. I had a bunch of regular spots down there, in addition to Burritoville, there was a pretty good Japanese hole-in-the-wall (Tokyo Lunch), a good Cuban take-out place, another good burrito place down on Rector, a pretty good falafel/shawarma place on Fulton, a good Thai place on Gold. The selection in Midtown is not nearly as good, in my experience.

o. nate (onate), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

tokyo lunch is scary!

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

who said midtown was good?

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

No way, Tokyo Lunch is good. I've never had sushi there, but the salmon teriyaki and chicken katsu-don are great.

o. nate (onate), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos Racial Hatred would be a great name for one of the bands on this type of bill.

go fuck yourself

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I'm just saying - when people complain about lunch choices downtown, they don't know how good they have it!

xpost

o. nate (onate), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I suggest you get a clue as to NYC rental prices.

keep in mind that chris lives, shaves, works, and drives in southern california, which as far as cost of living goes isn't exactly des moines either. and since he's moving to nyc soon, we've been poring over craigslist ads to find him something -- by now he's got a clue what he's up against.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw, Michaelangelo, I was just goofing on/referencing Dean's statement! I was totally on your side in the "token funk" argument a few threads back!

Neb Reyob (Ben Boyer), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, OK. hard to tell sometimes. sorry to jump like that.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

anyway, the idea that "racial hatred" and I coexisted anywhere other than Dean's mind is pretty ridiculous.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

But I should mention, incidentally, that Go Fuck Yourself is playing with Matos Racial Hatred this weekend at Tonic!

Neb Reyob (Ben Boyer), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

What's wrong with bringing in lunch from home?

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

rosemary I've found that if I bring lunch to work even two or three days a week it makes a big (positive) difference in my available cash. So I'd say there's nothing wrong with it at all.

rasheed wallace (rasheed wallace), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i've been bringing my lunch a lot lately, but it's kind of depressing. ordering lunch is such a highlight of office life that i feel a bit deprived.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Part of my problem with bringing lunch is that the office fridge has this whole Gowanus Canal-odor vibe goin'. Office fridges are groooooss.

rasheed wallace (rasheed wallace), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 00:32 (twenty-two years ago)

first of all, it's not just "free" chips, the free salsa at Burritoville is excellent, and I have been known to walk many many blocks during lunch to get to Burritoville instead of staying closer to my workplace and eating cheaper, lesser food, or for that matter, more expensive, lesser food.

now as far as shitty food neighborhoods go, I work IN the manhattan mall, or at least the same building. I've done koreatown and found a few killer indian places (Minar) mostly it's been a struggle. Walking to Chelsea or Hell's Kitchen is mostly to far. Anyone want to recommend places around there. Already a fan somewhat of Kosher Delight on broadway. Main problem also is that I work late, so dinner is 5 or 6, so no lunch specials and many places, like the Manhattan Hero Shop on 27th and 7th are closed.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

haha there's always ranch one!

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 00:46 (twenty-two years ago)

(that's what I had for dinner tonight) It's too convenient to not leave the building and just go downstairs to the food court. The sad thing is back when I first worked in this area 4 years ago, the food court was upstairs and was actually really good, it had a great cheap indian place. But now it's just (sub)standard fast-food crap. Charley's Cheesesteaks? Sarku? the "creole" place. Disgusting, really. Ok, Charley's is kinda good.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)
