Does anyone know if Hunter S. Thompson is REALLY still Rolling Stones' National Affairs Desk dude?

He's still listed in the current issue's masthead. Raoul Duke is also named as contributing editor for sports.

Thompson does a sports column on the ESPN Page 2 site. It usually posts a couple of times a month, more often during football season.

Sure, years can go by without Thompson writing for RS, but that's been the case for 20 years. No big deal to me if Wenner wants to remain loyal and keep the guy on the masthead.

I interviewed him a couple of times while I was in college. Still a great memory. Man, those tapes were hard to transcribe. I still don't know what he said to me.

I was pretty excited when I discovered this, but all he ever writes about is his own gambling on sports, which I have no interest in at all.

most of it is gambling, but he does throw in a lot of bush rants, as well. it's usually pretty deep in the column and may be one sentence or a paragraph.

Sometimes I feel sorry for him, cuz he's stuck in his schtick. But even Don Rickles can occassionally pull out something that surprises you, so I think Thompson's mostly just lazy.
