What is the advantage, if any, of forming a user list on SLSK?

I have been adding users to my list here and there. But I still can't see how it's useful to do this. Surely if I'm searching for a file, wouldn't I want to search as many people as possible, not just my user list?

Someone told me it's possible to only share files with your user list. I think this is a horrible way to do things. If everyone on SLSK formed an exclusive user group that could not be accessed from outside, there would be no files to share for anyone else, right?

some clients let you give people on yr list to skip the queue

Also useful as you know how fast they are - but I agree, the idea of small private groups excluding other people is pretty sad.

I just do it to keep track of people I've downloaded from at super-high speeds.

same as above[milo/johnny],as well as people who share similar tastes as me. i quite often check the user list files before i do a search as many times what i am searching for someones else on the user list already has.

the idea of having private user groups stems from RI*A fears, not from exclusionary principles.

The assumption you're making there is that you know what you're looking for. I've bookmarked a few people who specialize in obscure stuff that I've gone back to download from simply based on the title of the album. I discovered a lot a great albums that way simply because the name was intriguing.
