You should have put BunnyBrains88 on the thread title if that's who is playing the show. Not that I don't love Malcom and Bob, but it ain't the same thing as having Bunnybrains play a show. (Oh my, how confusing.)

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

well, Malcom and Bob claim the right to use the name "BunnyBrains" now
I posted that pic because that was the most accurate representation, image-wise

Dan Bunny is supposedly playing in the Squelchers tho

Russ, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

who is playing in Squelchers this time, Russ? Are you? Still need me?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, dude from dropdead wearing a swans shirt!!!!!!!

I LUV FAETTY (ex machina), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Rat is touring with 2 people, and he's been promoting the NYC show as if I'm going to play
I don't necessarily want to

why don't you play instead ?!

I don't think the OfficeOps "Laundry Room Squelchers NYC" thing is going to happen

Russ, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I could play it, maybe. Is the SB still playing OfficeOps 6/26?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I could pretend to be you.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Is the SB still playing OfficeOps 6/26?

yeah...I just don't have the time or energy right now to organize yet another somethin'
have to move out of this apt asap, finalize the tour, rehearse, track down equipment for 2/5 BZ, promote shows, other...

Russ, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

no dan, no bunnybrains as far as i am concerned.

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

it's been a problem in the past. It's confusing to the ten people who care in New York. Bob and Malcom are co-founders of the band with Dan, but Malcom hasn't played with the BB's in years and Bob quit playing with the band a couple years ago after joining again after a 10 year hiatus(!) My editor at the Voice wrote a nice live blurb for a show a while back, but I had to tell him that it wasn't really the BB's and he had to kill the blurb at the last minute. As I said, very confusing.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

no dan, no bunnybrains as far as i am concerned.

According to a friend who saw this incarnation of BunnyBrains at Lit a few weeks ago, they're amazing.
He was also on the fence because of the split...
When I saw "BunnyBrains '88" a few years ago, it was excellent...better than most BunnyBrains performances I'd seen, and I've seen many over the years.

I think Dan is a great performer, but I'm still not convinced that Malcolm and Bob don't have an equal claim to the name.

Russ, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

that pic of emil beaulieau is cracking me up.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Scott, are you related to Dan ?

Russ, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

(yes)

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan's my brother. And I've been friends with Malcom for 20 years and I've know Bob almost as long. I wish them well. They were a big part of the early daze and Bob was great with the band later on for as long as that lasted. And Bob is the one who brought along Chandra who is amazing. I wish them both well. They are both really talented guys. I just think it's a little aggravating. it's all history/politics and I don't think it's all that fair to Dan cuz he is the one and only person who kept the name alive for 15 years and counting. Malcom and Bob helped start it, but they both gave it up a long time back.

Having said all that, my brother is insane and he drives everyone around him completely insane. So, Malcom and Bob would probably win their case in court:

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Malcolm Tent is A-OK in my book, a great guy, but i'm still not over Bob defecting. No Dan, no Bunnybrains is pretty accurate.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i plan on making it appear as if Crystal Ship is opening for The Doors or Power Windows for Rush..Russ can defend them all he wants..its just the meth talking

dan bunnybrain (dan bunnybrain), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Obviously there is a pretty small niche of audience for a Bunnybrains of any stripe,When Bob decided to append an "88" on the end I thought it was offensive at first and then just plain silly and didnt mind.When he whole hoggedly rewrote the history of the band excising my majority input and presented it as if I had never existed I was a little more than offended.If band members get distracted by other sounds,tire of my flesh or sound of my voice,run their course or otherwise poop out then so be it.Start Hawklords or something.But leave the arrow filled hide of a rabbit I've been defending for almost 16 years be.Be something else,This is not your band,this is not your therapy.this is not some cheap ass way to book shows without doing the leg,cock and tongue work I have for so long.I have taken it on more than the chin to have my only safe place remain safe,and now i fear I must.Bearing a false image is as bankrupt as never having the ingenuity to maintain a ship as fucked as this one in the first place..I was the only applicant for the job many many times and I remain the CEO.Here is a piece off of WPRB's website from a show two months ago.." This week's live show was the BunnyBrains with Fursaxa and Espers. Holy shit--BunnyBrains were insane! It was a beautiful thing to see them scare the living hell out of the supposed hip of Princeton University undergraduates at Terrace Eating Club. (Disclaimer: there are a few actually hip students at Princeton, and they know who they are...all the rest are poseurs.) BunnyBrains were incredibly loud, had a smoke machine, got very nearly naked, and danced suggestively and violently with each other on the floor while most onlookers cowarded in the hallway. Hardly any bands nowadays have the capacity to make you feel truly uncomfortable, and they are certainly one of them. Congratulations, BunnyBrains! Book this band--you won't regret it. Well, actually, you will, and that's the point."..Hardly a band in danger of being replaced by ex bass players or anyone else..Im takin names and those that are with me will be spared and those that aren't shall be observed with a furious scrutiny.I dont take the poaching of my fans and bookings lightly..Im a Bunnybrain and proud of it and shall defend the honor of the title.

"Bearing a false image is as bankrupt as never having the ingenuity to maintain a ship as fucked as this one in the first place.."

I love you, Dan.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the sentiment was "No La Persona, No Bunnybrains" This whole bob Bunnybrains version 2 thing is an attempt to steal La Persona's limelight as 5th in command on the ship of fools. The new bunnybrains were never quite so new as they were with that old rapscallion, LP on board. Dan is the next US poet lauriette, but LP had that ineffable military precision and tiny lad modesty that truly made him the golden boy of no wave noiserock. I weep for him, openly.

Dan Bunny Forever, Bob Bunny For Mayor, Andy Bunny for a few minutes.

Annanna Karrennennenna, Friday, 18 June 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

.....it's agreed that the bunnnybrains have been founded and maintained on pure, mainlined, conneticut disfunction....this scandal is no more than the chickens coming home to roost....and when the chickens come....make chickenade. this chapter will not write itself....but with this many authors....the dialect will definately be....robust.

tom greenwood, Friday, 18 June 2004 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

QUESTION: Would you date someone who worked at Walt's in high school? [MOD: WARNING: NOISE-DUDE FRIENDLY!]

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Russ are you gonna play?

not planning on it.
too stressed about other stuff, too busy, not in the right mindset, not looking forward to it...
maybe some other time.

Russ, Monday, 21 June 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I might get a new guitar the day before but I don't wanna break it after owning it less than 24 hours...

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude lives in fuckin' Danbury now, right? When I was like seven I fucked my leg up bad at the Danbury Mall when I fell trying to get off the merry go round.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

you mean Dan Bunny? Upstate NY, dude.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

no i meant thurston; i dunno. there were massive xposts (i was outside grilling!&@(*!) and all that matters now is that I HURT MY LEG WHEN I WAS A KID.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Well Prurient looks like a ninny!

That Prurient dude is a ninny and a half! Be sure to avoid his sorry little routine at all costs.

Remember when your drunk uncle got up to give a toast at that wedding reception? Remember when he let the microphone stray too close to the amplifier? Remember the horrible, piercing shriek that ensued? Remember how everyone cursed and chuckled and clawed at their poor, aching ears?

Prurient's shitck: stretching that moment out until the laughter stops, and the pain and rage are all that remain.

And yeah, this is exactly the effect he was going for, so I guess the joke's on me, but I still say he's a tiny flake of poo floating in the vast sea that is mankind's creative potential. Don't swim too close...

Butter Leather, Monday, 21 June 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i kiss you, butter leather!

Ian c=====8 (orion), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanted to meet the girl in the squelchers pic but I might go see Black Dice instead.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

have you seen Emil before? If not, you should def. go; he's amazing.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Monday, 21 June 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

no, I still haven't seen him. He's one of the reasons I'm still on the fence.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

He'll make you giggle; I promise. He's always got tricks up his sleeve; I saw him in Providence once and he did a Merzbow parody. He dressed up in a kimono and painted his face and made a lot of Merzboq-esque noise. He's a great showman.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Monday, 21 June 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

fuggit I'm totally not going now.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)
