I think it's hosted by Kate Sullivan. I was going to listen to an episode online, but wanted to see if anyone else had heard it, and if it was any good.

Oh man, I gotta hear this! I'm close enough to Minn. that I can probably pick it up from one of the AM stations -- otherwise, I'll check for the streamin'. What station does it originate with?

briania (briania), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I've listened to it. It's on sunday nites where i am. (My cape and islands npr station)

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

um, that's massachusetts where i am. Off the Cod. And the map.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, it originates from Minnesota Public Radio, but I guess it must be syndicated, too. Not in Chicago, though.

Any thoughts, Scott?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, they have a lot of energy. it's very girly. Not that that's a bad thing. She sounds very young. Sometimes she will talk about a band with a friend of hers on the phone. Ya know, like girl-talk. And she has her rap friends explain rap and so on. It's pretty goofy. But I'll take her over that Odyssey woman anyday. (Gretchen somebody?) I thought maybe it was Garrison Keillor's daughter at first. I think there is a Keillor name in the credits. Maybe his daughter produces it.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

(Gretchen somebody?)

Gretchen Helfrich. My girlfriend hates her, too. Oh well.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

And Kate Sullivan writes for City Pages, I think. Unless it's a different Kate Sullivan. But I doubt it.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate Sullivan on OutKast:

"I was talking to this guy who I think is a little bit too liberal and white-guilty for his own good. And he was like, "Oh, OutKast, man, they're just, like, the white man's plaything because they, uh, they just mix, you know, this song that, like, is easy and soft enough for white people to appreciate, but it's not the real thing," or whatever. He was basically, like, putting down people who cross over, I think. And, um, I felt that that was, like, racist, because that's saying that black people can't really enjoy and get into 'Hey Ya!' -- and it's also saying that black people can only make a certain type of music, so it's putting limitations on them."

OMG NATE PATRIN SHE'S TALKING ABOUT YOU! YOU BOTH LIVE IN THE SAME CITY!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

g--ff (gcannon), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not making fun of Kate!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

ok!

hi kate!

g--ff (gcannon), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, hi Kate!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate Silver posts here, not Kate Sullivan. Kate Sullivan has lived in Los Angeles for around six years now.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

and I don't think Kate Sullivan knows Nate Patrin at all

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah. I got confused because it's on Minnesota Public Radio and exec-produced by Garrison Keillor. But then again, Marketplace is also on MPR and is taped in L.A.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyway, I was just kidding about Nate. But he's probably sick of ppl. talking about his "list."

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, Nate!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

whoops!

g--ff (gcannon), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Listening to the Weezer show as I type. Kinda fun, but way too cutesy for these ears.

I think Helfrich is weirdly hot, in a way. Still she's much better than Grossy and Sarah "tastes like down syndrome" Vowell.
