I mean it seems to me that the Ice Rink as venue was strictly limited to the smallish timeframe (1979-1995?) when medium-sized towns were waiting for medium-term investment by some medai/construction partnership to knock a hell-o-dome, creating a venue a band like Mettalica were more inclined to play in... but my opinion is undoubetedly crassly uninformed and based on scant first-hand experience; educate me.

I only ask because the other day while scouring the racks of my favourite local budget secondhand record store i came across a Iron Maiden 12" from their 7TH TOUR OF A 7TH TOUR tour, which listed my home town's alarmingly destitute Ice Rink as a date. This kind of blows my mind.

oh, and i also only ask because i'd really really really really like to see Wiley live. In an Ice Rink. Maybe.

The first or second-best show I ever saw was in an ice rink: The Clash at the Cape Cod Coliseum, August 1982.

I remember ice skating to "Shaddup You Face".

If you're going to play an ice rink you should use the ice:

I saw Fugazi play at an ice rink in Burnaby, BC (just outside of Vancouver) just a few years ago.

Metallica and Black Flag played my local roller-skating rink (at different times) in the early '80s.

i guess some suit someplace realised that you could build bigger than an Ice Rink, i mean on what level are they the pre-history of ARENA rock? Could you have one without the other? It seems there'd be plenty of bands with the sort of fanbase that'd fill the average icerink but not an arena, why don't they?

Are the acoustics terrible?

Has the universally and justifiably bad press for Wakemen's lame Knight Myths on Ice car crash of a project put everybody else off? Why did it's rep take ten years to sink down to band management/booker level?

I guess the whole thing seems aggressively Eighties...

Am i looking too hard or not hard enough at all this??

Runrig used to play in Inverness Ice Rink a lot when I was growing up. The only other people I remember playing there were Julian Cope (didn't make the main ice rink, just the function room of the Ice Rink - the ignominy of it!) and Terrorvision.

I have some "hilarious" footage somewhere of the 30+ minutes leading up to this one show a band I was in did at an ice rink where me & other band members & some other folx are behind the plexiglass wall watching rink employees build a "stage" out of tables out on the ice and preparing for our imminent demise.
