Who or what is "foul ball jerk"?

Jesus, that's weird. Thanks for the link.

Apparently he has cause to regret his actions:

Starr, a 28-year-old landscaper, came away with the ball, but he also earned contempt from the Rangers' broadcast team and boos from the crowd at the stadium.

Now, he's apparently gone into hiding.

Friends and neighbors in Sachse, where Starr lives, have plenty to say in his absence. According to an NBC 5 report, friends haven't seen Starr since the baseball game. The friends and acquaintances said Starr should apologize for his actions.

One neighbor retrieves Starr's mail and takes out his trash.

"As far as him hiding, that's wrong," neighbor John Hall said. "He should come out and face it and apologize."

"I kind of feel bad for him because I'm sure he's totally embarrassed with all the attention he's getting," Sachse resident Cynthia Smith said. "He shouldn't have (dived) over the seats."

Neighbors told NBC 5 that Starr mostly keeps to himself, but he does get upset when children play in his yard.

Apparently the dude was a former youth minister as well. This might explain his contempt for kids now.

he's set to apologize and return the ball to the kid tomorrow:

Lame move. Once you've established yourself as a dick, just run with it. Don't issue a fake apology because you got whipped by the paper.

It's like something out of Seinfeld.

I'd rather take in the foul ball jerk than 900 ft. jesus.

Did you see the footage? Foul Ball Jerk just about kicked some kid in the head.
I still love listening to the KCRW version of MC 900 ft Jesus' While the City Sleeps- I would take him over the Foul Ball Jerk any day.

The story gets weirder:

The little boy and his family were on Good Morning America yesterday where Charlie Gibson gave them tickets to last night's Mets game.

This morning a local morning radio show was analyzing the audio footage of the GMA appearance. Apparently the little boy cut one on the air.

good god, if I was that kid and his family, I would've given the Mets tickets back to Charlie Gibson. I was there, it was a fucking stinker of a game (unless you're an Indians fan).

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, Sabbathia deals. Don't fault the Mets for not being able to hit one of the best pitchers in the AL with the worst run/reliever support.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

no, you're right, C.C. was on - but I like to root for the home team. Unless I'm at Yankee Stadium.

Am I the only one that noticed on the newsclips the kid was looking off to the right, the man landed in the lap of the woman on ACCIDENT in his clumsy retrieval of the ball, and even after being jostled, the kid just seemed kinda confused and didn't really seem to care? "GIVE IT BACK"??? was the chant, but the kid never had it. The woman never had it. No one caught it. The man picked it up from the ground. Yes, he looked stupid. Yes, he is clumsy. No, he doesn't deserve to be verbally assaulted and have all these horrible labels attached to him.
A freaking prior youth minister, for crying out loud. He's not a childhater. _I AM_ (don't believe me? Check out my journal on LiveJournal, I'm "Goescrunch", and I hate children.). However, just because one likes kids doesn't mean they should turn them into little demigods, practically laminating their genitals in liquid gold.
I wish he didn't cave in to giving an apology and giving the kid the ball. He needs to assert himself and stand firm. He needs to not give a crap that the media-controlled people view him as an asshat. In a way, it's better to be viewed as a jerk. It's a bit more freeing than having to be goody-two-shoes all the time.
Hopefully more people will realize that children aren't the center of the universe...

Plus, the kid looked totally disinterested, even with Reggie Sanders of the Cardinals came out of the dugout to give him a bat.
