roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 17 June 2004 04:19 (twenty-two years ago)

"you make loving fun" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "little lies"

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 17 June 2004 04:41 (twenty-two years ago)

let's be honest, "little lies" is one of their less inspiring singles.

are 'friends' electricsound? (electricsound), Thursday, 17 June 2004 04:42 (twenty-two years ago)

"say you love me" >>>>>> "you make loving fun" >>>>> "little lies"

Broheems (diamond), Thursday, 17 June 2004 04:43 (twenty-two years ago)

No you went to far with that last one.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 17 June 2004 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I think my head would explode if I were forced to choose between "Sara," "You Make Loving Fun," "Hold Me," and "Brown Eyes"

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 17 June 2004 05:01 (twenty-two years ago)

also, Christine McVie is my very very favorite.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 17 June 2004 05:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i love christine but it's stevie i keep coming back to

are 'friends' electricsound? (electricsound), Thursday, 17 June 2004 05:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd prefer not to choose between any of them though

are 'friends' electricsound? (electricsound), Thursday, 17 June 2004 05:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a very soft spot for "never going back again" after learning to play it...

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 17 June 2004 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

sure, most of "Rumours" > "Hold Me" > "Everywhere" >>> "Little Lies", but I was restricting this to "Tango in the Night".

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 17 June 2004 05:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Where does "Got a Hold On Me" fit into all of this? and when is that damn new solo album coming out?

Broheems (diamond), Thursday, 17 June 2004 05:19 (twenty-two years ago)

christine's? isn't it out already?

are 'friends' electricsound? (electricsound), Thursday, 17 June 2004 06:21 (twenty-two years ago)

In the UK. Dunno when the US gets love.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

As if you could give a fuck about the US date, ESOJ, given you live in a non-American territory.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"Hold Me" > "Got a Hold on Me" > "Everywhere" > "Little Lies" (when comparing '80s Mac).

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Also interesting that McVie seems to be the only F. Mac member who, while recording solo, retains her innate Maciness, whereas Nicks and Buckingham (god bless 'em!), indulge in the kind of stuff best tempered by external creative input. The most recent Mac album, as much as I love it, really makes that obvious.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I only just now figured out I did in fact know "Say You Love Me" when I picked up the reissue of the self-titled album the other day. The advantage of hearing all these songs but never knowing what they were when growing up, I guess. (But to be honest I don't remember any of the singles from Tusk at all -- it's the Mirage stuff where I first was specifically aware of the band as such.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 June 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

"Little Lies" does not get its proper respect, apparently.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 17 June 2004 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually like that song a lot myself! Ever since I read the thread title I've been humming it -- I don't understand the hate, really.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 June 2004 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Little Lies is nice, I guess, but to put it next to something like Sara makes no sense at all.

Bimble (bimble), Thursday, 17 June 2004 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

sara sux

0r4l R0b3rt5 (ex machina), Thursday, 17 June 2004 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

To me "Little Lies" has enough of the intriguing detail of FM in general to stand on its own merits -- I'm thinking of how the counterpoint vocals in the chorus build up, for instance, or indeed as noted above that sad signal synth start.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 June 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

The production on Tango in the Night and Stevie's Rock a Little is quite similar, but I still would've loved to hear Mac's take on "Talk to Me" instead of her faceless studio band.

gygax! You learned how to play "Never Going Back Again?" I bow before you.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 17 June 2004 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

it's easy, one day i was doublepicking with some suspended C major formations and it all came together.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 17 June 2004 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Doesn't Lindsay use not only alternate tunings, but alternately strung guitars as well? Hm, maybe not on that song.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 17 June 2004 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Lindsey Buckingham has a tremendously weird guitar style -- it's like he was born locked in a shack with a guitar, some strings, and a couple everly brothers records and was let out when he was 18.

Kris (aqueduct), Thursday, 17 June 2004 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

LB has never used a pick.

NO PICK

0r4l R0b3rt5 (ex machina), Thursday, 17 June 2004 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

paul, i don't use a capo either:

NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN by Fleetwood Mac

Try my version of this song. It's sounds close to the real thing (and it's
easy for me, a mediocre guitar player, to play). I included a bass guitar
part and two versions of the chorus accompanyment. The first version
is played in the open position (while capoed) and the alternate version is
played using barre chords.

"Never Going Back Again" and "Go Your Own Way" are two of the saddest songs of all time.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Monday, 1 August 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

I like "Lies" because the chorus has the sweet-voiced McVie followed by the ethereal Nicks followed by Buckingham's harsh "TELLME TELLME LIES." It's like a quick primer on Fleetwood Mac vocalists.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 1 August 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

Of the several schizo personalities of the Mac from Rumours on, I prefer Fleetwood McVie the best.. "Little Lies" is testament to that... it's probably the latest Fleetwood Mac song I like.
