cos whenever he has some rapper or 'urban' artist, his stiffness seems to take over the entire programme (or over me, at least). jools' applause for the likes of dizzee or ludacris seems dubious to me. then again, i wonder if he even likes pj harvey. i dont think he does, cos there is just no way he could give pj the boogie woogie treatment.

I remember the first (I think) time PJ was on, she had told Jools about how "Wang Dang Doodle" was a song about a gay bath-house, which he related on the show. His clenched teeth were reasonably well hidden, or were they?

Ludacris was on Later? HOLY CRAP!

I believe in Jools. You can see when he's faking it.

The interview between Jools and Dizzee was a classic of mutual incomprehension. Actually I don't think Dizzee didn't get where Jools was coming from he just couldn't have cared less. What made it even weirder was Dizzee wasn't even performing, he was... just there like a minor comedian or Jamie Oliver usually is.

How has Jools lasted so long? At best he comes across as patronising, incompetent, smug shit. And he is rarely at his best.

(Also check out Ben Thompson's v. funny dismissal of Joolz in his book Ways of Hearing. Go and read it in Borders or wherever, it'll only take 10 mins).

And Dizzee Rascal is an ambassador of brilliant genuineness?

do they really have people named "jools" in the uk?

amateur!st (amateurist), Saturday, 19 June 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

A truncation of Julian, no?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 19 June 2004 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

jools is the hottest boogie woogie piano player in all the UK.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Saturday, 19 June 2004 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Jools = what middle class twats called Julian call themselves in a vain attempt to disguise their middle class twatishness.

Alex have you ever even seen Dizzee Rascal on television or anything else? It seems doubtful.

I eagerly await the follow up threads of "So does Fearne Cotton really like half the music on her show?" and "So does Simon Amstell really hate half the music on his show?"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 19 June 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, if i had to characterize one nickname as "twattish", i would venture "jools." it's more because of the spelling than anything else. why use "jools" when "jules" is perfectly fine?

No, I haven't. His album's a stack of tepid crap, though.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 20 June 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Depends on the temperature.
