The Boredoms - Phish (and Fishman in particular) encountered the Boredoms during their first shows in Japan. The Boredoms have toured the U.S. several times, including the 1995 Lollapalooza. Like other of EYE's and Yoshimi's bands (Free Kitten, OOIOO, and UFO or Die), they are popular throughout Japan for their unique musical experimentation. Among other distinctions, they share with Phish use of a vacuum as an instrument. And they are also working on a project with Ween, who themselves are connected with both Phish and Amfibian (see above). Listen to an MP3 soundclip. See also a fan site.

"David Bowie" is a good choice. I like "Catapult." After a common tv-background-sample, the bass player sings/swings breezily into telephone-connection-style production with no accompanying music...

(Doctor Davis, telephone please...Doctor Davis, telephone please)

Iiii'd catapult, downtown
to see the galleries and my favorite fiancee in a lavender gown

But I'm hooked up to a machine
It performs my daily functions through a tube in my wien

And today that thing malfunctioned
Like a forest fire it burnt a hole in me and I perspired

So there ain't gonna be no wedding
No love affair
No art to which none compares

has anyone heard that phish siket disc?
hilarious!
they got ahold of a delay pedal and used tape loops.
soooo avant (jk.)

this is what people miss about phish - they know that what they're doing is not groundbreaking, the Siket Disc (which is composed from jam outtakes and was mostly an outlet for the electronophilic keyboard player and their relatively famous engineer, and originally something they wouldn't even put in record stores; Elektra released it as a stopgap during their hiatus) included. they're a garage band. more ambitious than the average one, but it just so happens that the barbecues they played started drawing tens of thousands of people.

Yeah, Emma, that is hilarious...

"they got ahold of a delay pedal and used tape loops. soooo avant,"
