Huk-L, Friday, 25 June 2004 06:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Dans Le Club, even though they're rapping in French I can still tell they're really bad rappers, beat is hot though.

What's happened to the Talib Kweli album? Release?

JoB (JoB), Friday, 25 June 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

My ten fave hip hop tracks for this year:

T.I. - Rubberband Man
Memphis Bleek - Everything's A Go
Petey Pablo - Freek A Leek
David Banner - Crank It Up
Petey Pablo - Get On Dis Motorcycle
Kanye West - Slow Jamz (Collipark Remix)
Twista - Overnight Celebrity
Memphis Bleek - Just Bleek, Blaze & Free

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 25 June 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

...and:

Lil Flip - Dem Boyz (Screwed)
Lloyd Banks - On Fire

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Lil Wyte - In Here (Sounds like Fischerspooner screwed up and bludgeoned by Dj Paul & Juicy J in ski masks)

Mike Jones & Magno - U Feel Good Don't Ya (Beautiful sunny Houston beat, going on like Big Tymers. Mike Jones is dopey in a charming Mase way)

Eightball & MJG F Bun B - The Streets (funky church gospel organ, sounds a bit like those perfect cheap Master P beats on Ghetto Dope but more professional, featuring typically hot lyrics from 3 amazing MCs - Bun B has one of those voices you wanna lie back and listen to on your death bed. As south a song you'll hear all year)

Cam'ron - Yayo Man (You know about this already)

White Dawg - Chevy Bot (Bread n butter crunk music; rubbish lyrics about riding on candy paint and all that other boring Max Power car geek stuff but a nice beat that sounds like Knight Rider music but not the big bassline, instead he uses the weird stuttering compass point tick thing)

Young Buck F David Banner & Lil Flip - Welcome To The South (Jump off single for Young Buck's solo album, cool Banner beat, boring gun man verses)

scg, Friday, 25 June 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

how about albums (since thread didn't specify singles)? so far this year seems like it's been kinda quiet for hip-hop, it's warming up a little bit lately with Jadakiss (which I like) and Lloyd Banks (which is just aite), but other than that all I've liked this year has been Ghostface, Madvillain, Kanye, and to a lesser extent Cee-Lo, Masta Killa and Murs.

Josh Love (screamapillar), Friday, 25 June 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Dans Le Club, even though they're rapping in French I can still tell they're really bad rappers, beat is hot though.
-- daziz (esquire198...), June 25th, 2004.

Yeah the beat is hype. You heard any of their other records?

Love that Bleek, Blaze & Free track too... Murda Murda is decent also.

Some other ones I've been listening to lately -

Kayslay Ft Ghostface & Scarface 'Face Off' - Both MC's are in great form, but I reckon the Kanye-lite production lets it down.

Jin 'Handz Off' - This'd sound wild in a club, I'm almost tempted to go see him when he plays here next week (even if it is at a crap RNB club and its the only track I know!). Lyrically quite weak, but I understand he's more of a freestyle / battle MC?

The Native Tongues 'She Wants To Move' remix is nice too.

Mil, Friday, 25 June 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

big & rich f cowboy troy 'rollin' (the ballad of big & rich)'
petey pablo f missy elliott 'break me off'

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Friday, 25 June 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I forgot about "Welcome to the South", though it would probably fall just outside my top ten.

I also forgot "One Call Away"!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 26 June 2004 06:16 (twenty-one years ago)

four weeks pass...
*Jay-Z - Ignorant Shit*: Spits nonsense over the cool breakdown from Isley Brother's "Between The Sheets" that wasn;t sampled on "Big Poppa", Jay turns itinto an anthem with an amazing chorus - 'This is that ignorant shit you like, nigga fuck shit ass bitch shit precise/Im only tryna give you what ya want nigga fuck shit ass bitch you like it don't front!' and the perfect line 'They're all actors, looking at themselves in the mirror backwards - can't even face themselves'.

*Terror Squad - Thunder In the Air*: There's loads of good stuff on the TS cd, like the sweet Tony Sunshine old skool slow jam "Streets of NY" and "Bring Em Back" ft. Big L and Big Pun, but this one by Prospect is my favourite so far. It's a grimy Red Spyda beat with trance underwater keyboards that emerge and go all high-pitched in double time and a Tubular Bells piano line. More trance keyboards on rap songs please.

Killa Cam f Jim Jones Juelz Santana & Lil Wayne - Push It (Remix)

scg, Saturday, 24 July 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

m. (mitchlnw), Saturday, 24 July 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost Wow has it leaked already??

scg, Sunday, 25 July 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

well, at the very least i'm in the download queue for a bunch of fakes.

m. (mitchlnw), Sunday, 25 July 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

What do people think of Aasim? I've only heard "The Truth" w/ Fat Joe. Sounds a bit like a stoned Big L, good punchlines and criticises the industry. Apparantly he's the new saviour of Bad Boy.

scg, Monday, 26 July 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

oddly, nobody on this thread seems to have yet mentioned the new lil wayne and ric-a-a-che albums, which are both really good. there's also a new ying yang twins dvd/ep with four new songs (and they've put out other scattered recent singles here and there, as well, mostly as guests on other people's records i think. frank kogan says one of them just has ying and/or yang saying row row row your boat over and over again, and another one is an open minded acknowledgement that sometimes small butts are as attractive as big ones. i haven't heard either of those, though. i keep looking around for a bootleg CD that might collect all the spare ying yang tracks, but i haven't found one yet...)

chuck, Monday, 26 July 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

BEWARE SHOWTIME FAKES.

I have been 1st in the queue for three days straight with one guy and he doesn't respond. Obviously a dud.

broken twig, Monday, 26 July 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

nicole wray and peedi crack "thug love" - whoooooaaaaa!

dave k, Monday, 26 July 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, this is what i'm mixed up in, it seems. i have found a studio-quality copy of 'stand up tall', but i suppose with the video out that's no great shakes anymore.

m. (mitchlnw), Monday, 26 July 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Freeway f/ Mully Man - "Streets"
Lloyd Banks f/ Eminem, 50 Cent and Nate Dogg - "Warrior" (remix)

Jay-Z - "PSA" (Just Blaze remix)
CNN - "People Know"
Jin f/ Kanye West - "I Got A Love"
Twista f/ Ludacris - "Higher"

Al (sitcom), Monday, 26 July 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Ma$e - Back In The Days

There's a couple of the Stand Up Tall EPs on slsk, with the Youngsta remix, instrumental, acapella and the amazing Give U More w D Double (give me the mic and let me get raw WHAT THE HELL U THINK WE CAME DOWN HERE FOR!!! raving crew up on the dance floor u want more we'll give u more) and Dizzee speaks on the haters.

scg, Monday, 26 July 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I would've thought Diz would've written some new verses though! He's still talking about his girls from hackney to france an all that (you don't have to call me dizzee ras call me dave!). The riddim's kinda boring though, sounds a lot like Live-O

scg, Monday, 26 July 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually the last verse is new: 'don't really worry bout anyone much couldnt stop diz if you aimed for my crutch you'll get touched i leave you Overmars like dutch any day when you wanna play just say'. Fuck yes.

scg, Monday, 26 July 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

is the Mobb Deep album any good?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Monday, 26 July 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

to add new answers to the thread q:

jay-z - allure (just blaze remix)
federation feat e-40 etc - hyphy

m. (mitchlnw), Monday, 26 July 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Good call on Hyphy, but that track is more than a year old now. Sorry to be a pedant.

broken twig, Monday, 26 July 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway - Done Deal Family/Ya Boy-"16s"

broken twig, Monday, 26 July 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

For pure novelty's sake, wtf.

Plus that "Donkey" song, don't know who it's by.

broken twig, Monday, 26 July 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

hyphy's that old? oh well, who knew. and what would ilm be w/o pedantry?

m. (mitchlnw), Monday, 26 July 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry. :(

I am in the Bay Area, though. So maybe it just broke (inter)nationally? But obviously it's been pretty much unavoidable here for the last year. Still sounds great. Ric Roc is an underrated producer (also does Keak Da Sneak, strictly O-Town business),

broken twig, Monday, 26 July 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

ha no apologies! maybe i should start using emoticons. (that youngstar remix is a weird one, eh - the hair metal guitar on the chorus, the eerie woo-woos 'n 'spooky' kboards etc)

m. (mitchlnw), Monday, 26 July 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

MOP - Here Today Gone Tomorrow
Terror Squad - Yeah Yeah Yeah
Shyne - Here With Me
Beanie Sigel f Peedi Crakk & Twista - I Got To Have It

Anyone heard Lyricist Lounge 3 or the new Young Buck yet?

scg, Monday, 26 July 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost: I haven't heard the remix yet my downloads keep stopping (hint hint nordicskilla ;))

scg, Monday, 26 July 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, I'm at work. What's your username? I'll be sure to hook you up when I get back. My slsk is VERY buggy, plz don't take it personal.

Okay, I'm going back to lurking now.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Monday, 26 July 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Josh Love (screamapillar), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)
