Nelly Furtado at Euro 2004 - some bird singing.

Bjork at the Olympics - thousands of athletes shaking out her dress WHICH IS THE SIZE OF THE ENTIRE STADIUM.

Therefore Bjork/Greece pwns Nelly/Portugal.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 13 August 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

this should be wackier than that Albertville winter olympics where they sent a little french girl to the moon with lightbulbs on her head.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 13 August 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

(x-post)

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Friday, 13 August 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Just a huge Godzilla-size dress and some moaning and squeeking.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 13 August 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

the silence from the audience after she sang was hilarious

zappi (joni), Friday, 13 August 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

kephm, Friday, 13 August 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

La Monte (La Monte), Friday, 13 August 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Arrrgh. I've never cared for the olymp-openings. And thus I now missed the Björktravaganza, bah!

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Friday, 13 August 2004 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

100,000 people going "what the fuck," as we all know, isn't exactly an indicator that a performance lacked something.

maria b (maria b), Friday, 13 August 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i hate Nelly Furtado with a vengeance.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 August 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never met her.

peepee (peepee), Friday, 13 August 2004 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

That's not Nelly Furtado aka Nelly?

peepee (peepee), Friday, 13 August 2004 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

"YOUR SWEAT IS SALTY BECAUSE OF MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!"

La Monte (La Monte), Friday, 13 August 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

did they cut this on NBC? the pretentious stuff ended and now we're getting the parade of nations.

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 14 August 2004 02:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, they showed it. It was kinda cool, actually....in a suitably goofy way.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 14 August 2004 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw it. I would have liked it more if Bob Costas had shut up.

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 14 August 2004 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Yep i saw her, she was there.

DJ Tiesto was there too.

So don't they sort of cancel each other out somehow?

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Saturday, 14 August 2004 05:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I really wanted to see what she was gonna do (was hoping she'd enlist boyfriend Barney's help w/costuming), but fell asleep during the parade of nations. Fuck.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Saturday, 14 August 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

they talked over the whole thing so it was hard to appreciate. basically she was attached to a dress that rolled out and covered the whole stadium and had a map of the world printed on it. they cut this though so you only got a glimpse. it was much more impressive than the cirque de soleiel-esque opening

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 14 August 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, the entire thing was the greatest Olympic opening I've seen to date. It was like Cirque du Soleil only good.

ryan (ryan), Saturday, 14 August 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone have a videocap of this up, on Soulseek or Edonkey or something? I had to go to an art show at 8.30 and i was glued to the TV before i left...

Please leave that mpeg up until Monday, so I can download it at my office. I'm on dialup at home. Thanks.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Saturday, 14 August 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

mark_p, thou art my eternal savior.

Adam Bruneau, Sunday, 15 August 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

this is the best thing ever to happen in the olympics that probably didn't involve steroids

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 15 August 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, thanks for that, Mark.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 15 August 2004 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Was she even singing live? I didn't see a microphone anywhere...

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 29 August 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Many thanks for the link Mark.

Pretty incredible stuff. But if the song's called Oceania...isn't she 4 years too late?

bert (bert), Monday, 30 August 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Almost all of those types of events are lip-synched, JoB.
