Yeah, fuck you keith m. Plaid are grebt ... oh doh! DNFTT

Wild Planet - electron is brilliant. really crazy, distorted filtering.

phil jones (interstar), Monday, 16 August 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think Ellen Allien has every made a bad mix - I'll be downloading this the minute I get home.

I wished she would come and play in the UK - preferably Brighton.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Monday, 16 August 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Any word on if this will be releaed?

Where did "Dresden" come from?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 16 August 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
God, this mix is awesome.

Apparently it is out on CD in Europe now. Only 13 songs, but it seems like a lot more. It's like a combination of her two mixes so far, with a rather raw/big room type sound. The Schaeffel track she drops sure was a surprise.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes this mix is amazing (though grr my review copy has qnti-copy bleeps on it). I love how it covers so much ground without ever seeming ostentatious or self-conscious about it. The first track is beautiful, and the Plaid track slots with the more conventional dance tracks really well - sounds quite compulsive actually! I really like Apparat's schaffel track too, it sounds a world away from the almost IDM-ish stuff on his shitkatapult album from last year.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Oooh...

Cos I thought "Flieg mit Ellen Allien" was kinda boring compared to "Weiss mix" but this looks more varied. Exciting.

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah it's both really varied (electro-pop and IDM and Chicago house and schaffel and bpitch-style wonky electro all colliding) and a really kinetic, theoretically dancing-friendly set. It's odd though, when I'm listening I'm constantly surprised by how quickly it passes: the first half especially is intensely varied so it doesn't really "settle into a groove" until the second half

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently it's out in...

Order it direct from the bpitch website. I couldn't wait & have had it for what seems like ages now!

Yeah, it's sick.

I was a little thrown at first by the more conventional acid-house parts, but soon realised the old school flavour wasn't all it had going for it. It's also really moody, emotional and body-rocking. In comparison to the "wtf is going on?? (in a good way)" here vibe of weiss.mix it's different, but every bit as good. In short, a grower.

Oh and 'Dresden' is a tune she released on her (kaput) previous label "Braincandy" (from 1995? I forget) you could download it off her website for a while, and even at 56kbps it was a keeper.

Thanks for the Dresden info GB

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 11 September 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

by the way she has a killer minimal 20 minute set on her website

hector (hector), Saturday, 11 September 2004 02:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Best tracks of that minimal mix are the M83 'run into flowers' remix (also on Fabric 13), and the penultimate Afx funky acid absolute *slammer*.

Tracklisting for the Ellen Allien (minimal, on-site)mix:
1. Caustic Window - 'Joyrex 2' e.p. (White)
2. M83 - 'Runintoflowers' (Gooom)
3. Ambit3 - 'Enwrapped' (Finalfrontier)
4. Gridlock - 'Engram' (Hymen)
5. Afx - 'Men2' (White)
6. Goldchains - 'Let's Get It On' Ellen Allien remix (BPitch Control)

Another (terrific, and live) 80 minute on-line mix - http://www.ump3.de/content/ellen_allien_autobahn_liveset.html

Haven't worked out all the tracks, but some are Sachsa Funke 'Forms & Shapes' EA remix, Apparat 'Fuse (ellen allien vox), MDSLKTR, Feadz, Kiki and Sascha Funke again with 'Semi' ... and lots of stuff that isn't bpitch that I don't know, some nostalgic acid-house, some dancepunk, some punk.. -disco? I won't spoil the surprise (an audacious selection!) some very minimal tech and a shed load of properly hi-energy dance music.

grumpy bastard (grumpy_bastard), Saturday, 11 September 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

where abouts on her website is the minimal mix? i can't find it...

WHERE IS BOSTON, ELLEN

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 11 September 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Came home from a crapulous day at work to find this in the post today from BPitch.

I love BPitch Control. They are incredibly efficient at sending stuff out (I only ordered this on Saturday night from the UK) and I just get really excited when the parcel arrives.

Yeah, this is quite different from Weiss mix, and quite big and bold, but it sounds great.

Incidentally, re UK appearances, it looks like Ellen and Michael Mayer are at Fabric in London on Saturday 25 September:

four weeks pass...
Finally managed to pick this up last week in Brussels. Only played it once so far. First impressions: I think it takes until track 3 to really get going - although I was shocked that the first two tracks actually date from the early 90s. As others have sort've said already, it's really great how Ellen can make connections between the 00s stuff for which she's well known and the past (e.g. old Warp stuff, 90s techno and Chicago house). Dropping in the CJ Bolland track was a masterstroke.

Jeff W (zebedee), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:24 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...
This might be my most played mix of the past few years. Surely there has been a bit of a revival/integration of the sounds of rave/early 90s techno with Get Physical/Electro-House, but so many mixes stop short of going as ravey/big-room as "My Parade." I guess it’s always harder to find people who are not only knowledgable of cutting-edge dance music as well as dance music’s from a decade ago. But I still miss this type of sound.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 19 January 2007 20:09 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think Ellen Allien has ever made a bad mix

otm (imo) I'm not going to get my hopes up the new ones will be on quite the same level, plus a Fabric and a Boogybytes seems kind of redundant somehow, that said the latter's been put back for now, Modeselektor get #3.
