am listening to the cherrystones mix and it is so friggin' ace. full of obscure psyche-garage-freak-outs and i have no clue what any of it is...!

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:02 (twenty-one years ago)

can anyone guess these tracks? i have no clue as to what they are.

this one song is 'party all over, even in saint louis, so baby get ready i'll be kissing you' - over this cockrock guitar.

and then it leads into this organ workout and soul - 'yah - i'm going to tell my tale, i was borne lonely down by the riverside, i was just thirteen when i had to leave home ... if you need some lovin' and if you need it right away ... rambling man, gambling man'

and the next one is this prog-rock organ over fast drum beats and 'you... you... do what i say, i want you to go away ... you ... you should find another man ... i said you ... you make my face become one i want to cut it down ...

and this guitar that is really phat 'get it on' riffs and some flutes playing in the background

Is this brand new or from 2002, 2003 time?

He did a top 10 for the mag I work for ages ago and it had, like, Zeni Geva in it. Then I saw him DJ and he played Shellac. But mostly it's psych-garage all the way innit. Whether he's actually produced anything of much note himself is another matter (I have a single, 'Bedbugs', that's pretty forgettable).

DJ Mencap0))), Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

some say we are too young ot rule but we'll show that they are wrong, come on together, show me we're strong, how does it feel to be part of the cause and the chorus goes: stand up, stand up, for rebel rule... if you don't like to be made to be sent to school just shout rebel rules....

any idea? anyone?

bedbugs was alright but remedies and symptoms is awesome, like a hip-hp version of the taking of pelham 123 soundtrack. highly recommended.

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

... it goes all dub-like and then it has this scratchy yeah yeah yeahs post-punk and a female singing 'under water does it matter anti-matter - nucleur reactor - boom boom boom ... and she does some bjork caterwauling...' and she starts going: oh my genitals!

help? this is driving me nuts.

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

and then this sample where it goes: why don't you just do what you fucking started to do, dabba dabba do

and then this morricone(?) sound of drugs exploitation movie version fo a soul track....with a really phat bassline. and some guy going hey, oompf in the background....

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

this sample:

i have excellent news for the world. there is no such thing as new wave. it does not exsist. it is a figment of lame cunts imagination it was just a polite way of saying that you were not into the boring rock'n'roll but you didnt say punk because you were afraid that you would get kicked out of the party adn they wouldnt give you coke anymore. there is new music. there is new underground sound. there is power pop, rockabilly but new wave doesnt mean shit.

is it alex in nyc???

and then there is a phil spector like of this gritty girl singing: my mind is spinning around as i go deep in the tunnel of love.

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

might help if we could hear this, dude.

(you know the "ramblin', gamblin' man" thing is bob seger system, right?)

and the 'new wave' thing is kickboy face from "decline of western civilization."

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

cheers ...!!! i know, but this is a mix that he does for clubs when he puts the word out for gigs. he gave me a copy. and i don't know any of it...

i think its going to be released soon? dunno? might be a licensing nightmare though.

next track:

another soulful girl going 'you you don't know me' 'you don't know me but i know you'... sort of a call response...

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

next one is a kraut rock prog thing ... 'hostility, its a thing that i really don't request but its obviously a diversity for those minds that arent in distress. you know that love won't cure any ...' over heavily treated vocals and this stockhausen bleep sort of thing.

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

and an instrument thing...

and next track:

soulful - a man, a room, eyes, tears, his eyes are losing tears, he's got nothing to live, over this hip-hop strumming folk rock thing. 'a man i know in a room'...''a man who is down and out he's got nothing to live for ... there is no doubt (insert scream)....

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i bet dollars to donuts the new wave thing is "janitor" by suburban lawns.

(thank google for that one.)

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

heh. cool! three guessed.

the whole mix starts with some feedback with a guy gonig 'we should be out boozin', we should be out pogoin' so let's go ok..'

and then a hard rock guitar...and hip hop beats ... 'ron, ronny, just do this thing for a sec...' and 'we have played it tongiht'

'somewhere -- where i am i? don't know when i am high. people looking at me. is there ..... someone help me, someone tell me what is happening to me... people night and day ... woman here what i say.

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.peterlink.ru/~freddie/rock/sweet/album.early/

huh. its a sweet song - that 'somewhere where i am..' it rocks.

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.lyricsdepot.com/lord-finesse/soul-plan.html

ha. he mixes that into a lord finesse record... sweet into lord finesse. it works!

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Doomie;

The 'Rebels Rule' song is Rebels Rule by 70s Scots glammers Iron Virgin. It's comped on the Velvet Tinmine CD on RPM records. I DJed this in Leeds once and no-one danced (in the same set I DJed 2+2= by Bob Seger and no-one danced to that either. Faux-trendy fuckers).

What's the name of this mix so I can hopefully slsk it.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Sunday, 15 August 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

you could try 'all party no bullshit' or 'entertaining the unobvious'

those are the names it has been given out under....

http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Alley/1875/splash4.html

next one after lord finesse is splash 4. this mix is nuts!

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

got another one! hooray. this is fun...!

http://www.guitarmusic.org/kottke/la053191.html

next one is a kraut rock prog thing ... 'hostility, its a thing that i really don't request but its obviously a diversity for those minds that arent in distress. you know that love won't cure any ...' over heavily treated vocals and this stockhausen bleep sort of thing.

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I keep forgetting to get a copy of that Velvet Tinmine. I need that comp really really bad.

This mix sounds cool.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 15 August 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

hey found another one... after splash 4 is this...:

http://home.att.net/~bubblegumusic/songgotlove.htm

ok the next one is harder. its a cover of my boyfriend's back' but really tinny with really loud amplified drums.

yeah this mix is cool, scott - you should check out andy's mix -- track listing for that is here:

http://www.b-music.co.uk/girls_cry.html

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

and then it goes into this heavy electronic beat....and then we are back to

can anyone guess these tracks? i have no clue as to what they are.
this one song is 'party all over, even in saint louis, so baby get ready i'll be kissing you' - over this cockrock guitar.

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Sample from "decline of western civilization."
janitor" by suburban lawns.
The Juicer - Sweet
Lord finesse - soul plan
Rebels Rule by Iron Virgin
2+2= by Bob Seger
I Can See But You Don't Know - Splash Four
Leo Kottke - ????
PROFESSOR MORRISON'S LOLLIPOP - You Got The Love

nine songs. fucking cool! plus aobut a thousand weirdo instrumentals and northern soul songs that i have no clue at all about...

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The Bob Seger one was Rambling Gambling Man (I just threw that 2+2= bit into my DJ story - Get hold of it anyway tho' it fucking rocks - it's the insp. for 7 Nation Army).

No luck slsking this goddamit.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Sunday, 15 August 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, I'mguessing but I think the vers. of I can See But You Don't Know will be the original by Eddy Grant's 60s group The Equals.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Sunday, 15 August 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd offer up a burn but my burner is on the fritz.

who sings funnel of love???

cool ... am listing it all so i can soulseek the tracks before i go off to the movies!

doomie x, Sunday, 15 August 2004 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)
