ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ruins >>>>>> Lightning Bolt

To be honest, I've always kinda thought LB just didn't do enough in their songs.

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

SCIENTIFIC SUPERCAKE DESTROYS ANYTHING LIGHTNING BOLT HAS EVER DONE (PERIOD)

I'll be the one to say LB. Even though I don't know the Ruins at all. But I love LB because their music is so uplifitng and joyous. Their concerts are really magical, at least all the times i've seen them whether it's in a sweaty basement or one of my least favorite clubs. I don't ever listen to the records, but I may keep buying them. In a genre where everything is supposed to be "fucked" I like that they just play what sounds like nursery rhymes really fucking loud.

Magic City (ano ano), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

(anyone who likes gHS or Ruins over Lightning Bolt looks like a Rush fan)

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

THAT IS TEH STUPID. RUSH HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ruins:LB::Rush:Phish

In hell, I'd rather hear less Phish

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ruins was formed in 1985.
Lightning Bolt was formed in 94-95 IIRC.

lightning bolt live

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you think LB would benefit from a different producer/engineer?

XP Maybe.

But what can they do? Add a string section? I think they've reached their creative peak.

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Use a looper on vocals? Oh wait!

"13 monsters" was LB's peak IMO.

They certainly COULD benefit from better production.

Since the new LB LP is supposedly 100% improvised material, does that make them jazz now?

i like lightning bolt.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I like lightning bolt too.

not as much as I used to. The last time I saw them, (last summer) they were awful.

I think the first record was pretty much improvised, no?

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

( i forgot my password, damn my short term memory) can you reset it or something ? JON

kephm, Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

LB over Ruins -- for me, LB has more of the fire and spontaneity (sic) that ruins lacks, but that must just come down to LB's metal influence vs Ruins' prog influence.

also, GodHeadSilo was great.

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I interviewed Brian Chippendale once, and I asked him the perhaps inevitable Ruins question. He said that, sure, he liked the Ruins, but that Tatsuya didn't hit hard enough for his taste. That kinda summed it up right there for me. LB by a hard-hit nose. Plus everything Magic City said.

Lee G (Lee G), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

what is this noise board kephm's talking about?

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

lightning bolt >>>>>> ruins.

I've never heard ruins, though.

cºzen (Cozen), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Every time I see the Ruins I leave feeling totally emotionally drained, grabbing people by the lapels and asking if they understand that they just saw the best band in the world. Leaving a Lightning Bolt show is sweatier, though, so that's good. Ruins are better on record, but LB is such an American Band that they are easy to love, and their DVD is as good as a good Ruins LP.

tie? more bands like this please.
