Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll be there saying goodbye to a band i once loved, and then stopped loving, but they still have a place in my heart. this'll be my first gbv show in years. and my last.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm mostly just excited to hear them do "Everybody Thinks I'm A Raincloud" and "Sleep Over Jack."

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

wish i could be there...

there's GBV karaoke with a live band at a club called Tonics afterwards.

thomas, Wednesday, 18 August 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there for sure.

57 7th (calstars), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

there's GBV karaoke with a live band at a club called Tonics afterwards.

now THAT I wish I could go to. I'd dib "Big Boring Wedding"!

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

what exactly is the difference between a typical gbv live show and gbv karaoke?

fact checking cuz (fcc), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

YOU do the high kicks!

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

YOU get so drunk you can hardly stand then sneer are other groups for being younger, richer and more successful than you are

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck the free show. its all about the karaoke.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

ill be there, BTW. at tonic.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

actually, I'd do "Quality Of Armor." A local band covers it but they fuck up the chours by going "driiive myyyyy caaarrrr" rather than "drive my car!" I need to hear it done right.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i am going to do "game of pricks". i play it on my guitar at home all the time.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

God, I knew so many GBV songs by heart in high school. I never knew when I'd get the chance to be the next rhythm guitar player.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man, and I'm wearing a GBV shirt right now. weird.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

ive always wanted to start an all-girl GBV cover band. i guess this is as close as im going to get!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd love to go to the GBV karaoke, but it's just not a real option for me since I commute to the city.

If I could do a song, I'd want to do either "I Am A Scientist" (obvious, I know!) or "Universal Truths & Cycles" or "Frequent Weaver Who Burns."

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

It would have to be "Hit"

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I think 'Salty Salute' would go over well...

57 7th (calstars), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

"Disarm the:
1) SETTLERS
2) SEXLERS
3) SEXLESS

Oh man, how did I forget "My Valuable Hunting Knife"? Of course that would be my first choice. But I won't be there.

They should record this and put it out on Fading Captain.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Thursday, 19 August 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Knowing Cap'n Bob he probably will

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 19 August 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The show was pretty great, the new stuff sounded strong, especially "Sleep Over Jack" and "Window of my World." I liked how they dug out a couple songs from the first few albums. Also, "Sad if I Lost It" was cool. I do the think the show kinda lost steam towards the end. Sucked that there was no encore.

ColinO, Friday, 20 August 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

taking stock of GBV karaoke:

- getting to tonic early for sign up. check.

- finding out songs would be picked randomly, which means my early ass doesnt stand a shot. uh...

- drinking and having drinks handed to me. check.

- getting on stage when it wasnt my turn and singing. check.

- doing it for like, every song. uh...

- having no recollection of this photograph being taken. ugh.

- throwing the microphone into the audience for participation. check.

- being flagged by GBV's manager. er...

- telling bob pollard "no fair you always sing these songs!" when he gets on stage to sing. um...

- waking up in the LES apartment of an ex-boyfriend. OK.

- throwing up at breakfast 3 times. PRICELESS.

clearly, there are a lot of blanks that need to be filled from last night. what the hell happened to me? no wait, i dont want to know. ill feel more embarrassed, if thats humanly possible.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Saturday, 21 August 2004 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurrah for Maria, who surely at least had a good time.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 August 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

no hurrah for me. apparently i chipped one of my front teeth and got burned on my hand in the process. more like, "serves you right!"

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Saturday, 21 August 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

How horrid! Ask Bob to dedicate the profits of the release to your recovery (and hangover).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 August 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

"Sleepover Jack" and "Sad If I Lost It" were really, really, really good. So was "Beg For A Wheelbarrow" and "Alone Stinking and Unafraid." Pretty strong show, though the lack of encore (and the megaclassics which are normally played in the encore) made it so that the show ended on a sour note.

Note to Bob: just because it ends on the lyric "and that's the electrifying conclusion" doesn't make an obscure tune like "Murder Charge" an actual electrifying conclusion!

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Saturday, 21 August 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

wish i could have been there. i've ducats to seven shows on the upcoming tour though so fuck ya!!!

aa, Saturday, 21 August 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Tickets just went on sale for the last two NYC shows an hour ago, by the way. I'm seeing the last one with Chavez opening up.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Saturday, 21 August 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

can't make the new york trek, unfortunately, hitting boston/philly/washington/cleveland/detroit and chicago times two.

aa, Saturday, 21 August 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

as you can clearly see from above, one GBV related event is enough for a year. i have a ticket to the philly show [a birthday gift] but at this point i just might sell it.
