the new thrills single...

i quite like this...soooo reaching for something which is beyond them...those strings swoop to such an unnecessary degree, its pretty endearing. and that weak singing voice straining for attention - the fake american accent even thicker than before!

yeah, so rather than trying to appease those that belittle their style, the thrills are embracing those cliches. this is total self-parody, and i'm loving it! 8.5 / 10. i cant remmeber the songs name, unfortunately.

Are they better than the kills? oh wait, is the album called Let's Bottle Bohemia? Cuz that album is really bad. And i like albums! Is the single "Whatever Happened To Corey Haim?" Ya can't lose with that title, that much i DO know.

There are different single releases for UK and USA. The American single is "Not For All the Love in the World" which is amazing - one of the best songs I've heard all year in fact. I mentioned on another Thrills thread that his voice is very Mercury Rev.

i will listen to that song again, spencer. that album didn't do much for me though. (notice i didn't say that it didn't *"THRILL"* me, cuz that would just be silly.)

"whatever happened to Corey Haim" is the song i'm talking about scott, but discussion of other thrills songs is welcome!

Nice job on trying to be Mark Prindle and failing miserably.

Weird. I just saw a poster on the tube coming home tonight proclaiming nothing other than 'Whatever Happened To Cory Haim?' and the web address www.whateverhappenedtocoreyhaim.com. Now I get home and read this. I'm disappointed. I thought it was an ad for a movie.

I really wanted to see it, the poster made it look almost as cool as Neil Patrick Harris was in 'Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle'...

Just heard "...Corey Haim" and it's nice and breezy, but it meanders a bit and I wish they'd spent more time arranging the basic song before working out all the (admittedly lovely) strings.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I'm not all that familiar with mark Prindle! I will google him. Is he funny? I've seen the name forever, but I can't think of where I might have read his stuff. Is this a horrible admission? (Does he post on ILM?) Anyway, everything I said in my post was TRUE even if it wasn't funny. The Corey Haim title is a clever one that is a real eye-grabber, and i thought the album was really boring and anemic-sounding, and there was just a kills thread and sometimes I have trouble keeping these bands straight. I'm gonna go google now.

I take it back, I've seen his website and enjoyed it. He reviews every Crass album, that's how I remember. He's cool with me. His number one album in the pazz and jop 2002 was bruce springsteen, which I'm guessing was some sort of anarchist prank.

Mark Prindle is the greatest rock critic ever.

The Thrills rock. I like that song that goes something like, "Hanging around in a one horse town."

Not For All The Love In The World is awesome. Whatever Happened To Corey Haim is quite good. However, I'm still not holding out any hopes for this album at all.

Oh no! The version of NFATLITW is slightly different to that which was on C***tS*****s. It sounds less like MR's Goddess On A Hiway now. Which is a bit of a shame, really.

one month passes...
does the album contain (m)any songs as good as that spiffing single?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 8 October 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i revived this thread without noticing the other thrills thread had been revived. coincidence, eh?
