Thank christ a couple of long overdue cheques are coming in this week for articles written last month! Which of these artists must I buy, and what albums? They've worked their way near the top of the old wanted list.

Elysian Fields

Tim Buckley
Sophia
Califone
Bardo Pond

Tim Buckley - Lorca

Bardo Pond - all of 'em. Or Lapsed. Try to find the Tests for New Swords 7" on Siltbreeze - turns up relatively cheap on eBay from time to time

Super Furry Animals - Radiator. I don't think you can really go wrong with any of their stuff, although avoid Mwng if you don't want it all in Welsh.

Get Dilate by Bardo Pond. It has a bunch of songs that sound like their usual (good) stuff, and one (Inside) that's great and doesn't sound like their usual.

Get Mwng by Super Furry Animals (the all Welsh album), then pretend that they're singing in slurred English and try to figure out what the lyrics are.

Thanks for the suggestions, typing into the wanted list now. Keep 'em coming!

bardo pond. i think "dilate" might be a little off-putting to some people, the vocals are almost ridiculously high in the mix at times. "lapsed," yeah.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:50 (twenty-one years ago)

and "blue afternoon" by tim buckley, what a beautiful album.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Blue Afternoon later period Tim Buckley? I guess I could goto allmusic but you know...

Piers, since you're new here (I just read the "Introduce Yourselves" thread) then I feel compelled to warn you about some of our fellow ILXors :

--> Ignore any and all disses of Bardo Pond on ILM

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 23 August 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Get Mwng by Super Furry Animals (the all Welsh album), then pretend that they're singing in slurred English and try to figure out what the lyrics are.

hahahaha
lovely.

Hey, the rest of my post didn't show up!

I went on to say: "Lapsed", thirded. Plus their most recent album, "On the Ellipse".

SFA's best album is "Guerrilla", easy. Their best single is "Juxtapozed With U", which is possibly the best single of the past five years. "Rings Around the World" (album) is worth it just for that song.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 23 August 2004 04:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think you can actually buy blue afternoon or lorca, unless you want to go ebay.

gaz (gaz), Monday, 23 August 2004 04:54 (twenty-one years ago)

o, wait...you CAN get lorca.

gaz (gaz), Monday, 23 August 2004 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

All of Buckley's stuff is currently available on CD with the urgent and key exception of Starsailor, for reasons discussed on whatever thread we discussed it on last week.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 23 August 2004 07:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"blue afternoon" isn't currently available on cd. unless by available you mean amazon's "used & new from $64.50" deal.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Monday, 23 August 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

It's available on CD in the UK - I can't speak for overseas.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 23 August 2004 08:18 (twenty-one years ago)

crikey! must check.
