Kasabian - Next Big Thing?

The album's bloody wicked - great beats and they have a nice attitude about them.

Are they going to blow up?

Lazza, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Two top 20 singles doesn't count as "blowing up"? They've got a dumb-quote-a-matic asshole frontman, the NME is going to have a field day with them. Perhaps they could exchange barbs with Razorlight. That'd be good.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i would like to blow them up

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

well it's hardly going top three is it? everyone seems to go top 20 these days.

Lazza, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 09:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just heard Reason Is Treason. It really hasn't hit me as anything worthwhile yet.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw them live when they toured with Chikinki. They were both kind of meh.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm pondering over just how low the standards for your beats have to be for Kasabian's beats to qualify as 'great'. Eek.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

saw them live supporting the von bondies and they were one of the worst things ive ever seen. the frontman was doing that lips-way-out-on-the-stage thing that mick jagger does, then added a noel gallagher meathead strut on top of it. i thought they were likea student-uni band.

but heard the album the other week, and well, its not bad at all. the first track was pretty good actually. everyone says theyre like primal scream.

splooge (thesplooge), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

well the beats on the second track are a re-played version of the sample pete rock flipped for one of the Mecca album tracks, and Mr Peter Philips certainly knows his beats

Lazza, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

indie bands using archaic hip hop samples = played.

old hip hop producers in the 90s using archaic jazz/funk samples = not played at that time.

splooge (thesplooge), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

formulaic rules about what is and is not acceptable to listen to = hella played

Lazza, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Kasabian = mad ghy.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Dom, the kidz are spelling it 'geigh' these days

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The kidz = ghy.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I got told by my boss that she was watching telly and thought I had joined a band on the quiet. The band turned out to be Kasabian. I don't think I'm happy about this.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

it's ghey, actually.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

bigger than j-hova

addy, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Hah, yeah. As much as I hate Kasabian, that was fucking hysterical.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm waiting for the next big American band to be a band called Hindley

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 26 August 2004 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 14 January 2005 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 15 January 2005 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 15 January 2005 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Terrible singer but there's an excellent Jagz Kooner remix. I'm looking for an instrumental version...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 15 January 2005 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Jagz Kooner specialises in remixing bands of that stripe. His must be a terrible life.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Saturday, 15 January 2005 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

He's one of my favorite producer/remixers ever. It's like death-motorik. He's a genius - have you heard his "Blue Straggler" remix for Electrelane? It sounds like a David Lynch movie.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 15 January 2005 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

But I agree, he's had to listen to a lot of bad vocals. He should really just ditch the vocal tracks as soon as he gets the files/tapes.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 15 January 2005 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Bad bad bad. I saw them on my street once, and I was thinking "fuck you!" you really intesnely, but they still looked at me like they thought I was a fan because I had a vintage leather jacket on.

As I carried on walking they went past me in a car and beeped their horn.

Idiots of the highest order - dont come back round my way!
