It's about damn time. I've already ordered my copy.

wow - kinda surprised it was reissued at all. But then I guess those Fuzzy Haskin solo records are already on CD, so why not... this album was not as great as I hoped it would be, but it is pretty entertaining nonetheless, particularly if you enjoy the vibe of mid-period Funkadelic (squelchy synths, ridiculous vocals, a little bit of heavy metal guitar soloing). The sleeve, however, is WONDERFUL.

Ain't that the truth.

How good/bad IS this album? Is it worth $20 plus shipping?

Matt Sab (Matt Sab), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

well, how much do you enjoy mid-period Funkadelic and its off-shoots? Most of the album sounds like outtakes from "Hardcore Jollies" or "Tales of Kidd Funkadelic". I like this stuff, and I paid for it, but others mileage may vary. It doesn't contain anything close to his best stuff like "Maggot Brain" or "Alice in My Fantasies".

...squelchy synths, ridiculous vocals, a little bit of heavy metal guitar soloing...

The mere appearance of the word "squelchy" impells me to buy a copy!
(Well, that and the fact that I've waited years for it to be re-released...)

this thread has sent me running to listen to "maggot brain" again*

*which, for better or worse, i will always associate with a friend's suicide

I paid $45 for my vinyl copy years ago, so whatever any of you guys pay for it is a steal by comparison anyway...

Anybody ordered this yet?

Mine just arrived today! (Haven't played it yet.) I got #4956/5000. Which would suggest that they're disappearing fast, but I guess it's extremely unlikely that Rhino's shipping them in precise numerical order.

Still, I'd be interested in knowing what number the rest of you buyers received. Not for any collector-scum, I-got-#0001-therefore-I-win! reason, mind you. Just idle curiosity.

Mine was in the 270s, but it's at my office so I can't look it up right now.

They are now gone from RhinoHandmade. Amazon still lists it, but maybe that is simple an error by them.

Matt Sab (Matt Sab), Monday, 9 May 2005 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Some of Amazon marketplace dealers sell the Rhino Handmade items. I got my copy of the Hazel cd and the two Cactus compilations from a vendor at Amazon for a couple bucks less than buying direct from Rhino.

I found this in the clearance bin at my local Tower records, a bargain for a mere $4.99.

The number is 4279/5000.

Man, "From the bottom of my soul" is gorgeous!

paul c got a bargain.

I paid $45 for my vinyl copy years ago, so whatever any of you guys pay for it is a steal by comparison anyway... I think I paid about £30 for mine in about 95. Well my mate got me it at a record fair in London when he was working down there.
Im sure it was selling for about $25 before that cd came out.
My cd is 3289/5000.

Even though I only paid about five bucks for mine, in the late 80s, I'm among those who think (always thought)it's pretty uneven (not gloriously eccentric, etc.) But some good tracks, yeah. I'm glad I got it.

don (dow), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 03:56 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, Phil/Paul/Brigadier: Only 4991 remaining copies to be accounted for, and then I'll be satisfied! (Might consider compiling the results in a database à la Startrekman...)

Screw that $100 price tag, this being re-released on Tuesday:

eddie hazel's ghost got in touch via myspace to inform me of this new release... http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/eddiehazel

$35 feels a little steep...

stevie, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

I read about that ages ago. Didn't buy it because it was so expensive. So if anyone has it and thinks it's worth it please let me know.
