2NIGHT Fri 8/27 ----> crazy fun times @ TOMMY'S TAVERN with bands:

2MORROW Sat 8/28 ---> an amazing night @ LA NORTEÑA with:
:: NO NECK BLUES BAND
:::: SIMON FINN
:::::: VIRGIN EYE BLOOD BROTHERS
legendary psych-folk musician :SIMON FINN:, back from a 30 years break from the music industry. Simon Finn's 1970 masterpiece 'Pass the Distance' is a legendary piece of vinyl, fought for by collectors, and looming large in the voices of contemporary luminaries & experimenters like Richard Youngs and Devendra Banhart.
playing after Simon will be the :NO NECK BLUES BAND:, possibly the most enigmatic and distinctive improvisational collective out of Brooklyn in the past ten years - John Fahey dubbed them his last favorite new band, and toured with them on his final tour.
Openning the night is Louisville's :VIRGIN EYE BLOOD BROTHERS:, with members of Majik Markers, Sapat, Valley Of Ashes, and Spectre Folk.
:LA NORTEÑA: (formerly 'El Bohemio') is the restaurant next to Boogaloo, at the foot of the Williamsburgh Bridge. Now with HARD LIQUOR and cheaper beer, drink a cold Tecate while sipping your friends' margaritas.
SUNDAY 8/30 4:30pm ---> afterprotest VEGAN BBQ @ LYRIC LOUNGE:
|| BENJI COSSA
|||| PARENTHETICAL GIRLS
|||||| ZEKE HEALY (from the BOGGS)
|||||||| SLEEPY DOUG SHAW
|||||||||| and extra special guests PUTTIN' ON THE RITZ
all quiet playing under open skies on the patio; BENJI COSSA is a songmaker like no other, writing perfect and odd melodies with perfect Jonathan Richman overtones; & also PARENTHETICAL GIRLS from Seattle, who is Zac Pennington from the Slender Means Society playing odd and quiet songs; fingerpicking slide guitar gorgeousness from ZEKE HEALY and amazing delta blues froma Brit in the body of SLEEPY DOUG SHAW; and lastly, PUTTIN' ON THE RITZ - http://puttinontheritz.blogspot.com - play standards with drums and singing and that's it.
EARLY SHOW - 4PM!!! Rub the teargas out of your eyes and relax after the big anti-Republican march under the peaceful skies of the Lyric Lounge patio, in the shadow of the Kosciusko Bridge, with some cheap beer, some sweet sounds, and some **VEGAN BBQ**!!

*ALSO*: TONIGHT, Friday 8/27 --> come out at 7:00pm to UNION SQUARE - BRING YOUR BIKE - for CRITICAL MASS.
The Daily News reported yesterday that the NYPD want to put a stop to Critical Mass after ten years of last Friday of the month bike rides through the streets of Manhattan. Let's come out in force and show them that CRITICAL MASS is true to its name - they're more of us than there are of them! Be warned - it is likely that the police might use a sweep of arrests at Critical Mass to both deter acting out at the RNC week protests and also to sweep some militants off the streets - so for your own good, behave yourself and show your peaceful solidarity by exercising your right to ride your bike! --> http://www.times-up.org/cm.php
*MOST IMPORTANTLY*: the big one during RNC week is the UNITED FOR PEACE & JUSTICE MARCH on Sunday 8/29 through the streets of Manhattan, past Madison Square Garden.
Gather @ 10:00AM as close as you can get to the corner of 14th St & Seventh Ave, and we will commence marching up Seventh Ave past MSG. The march with make a right turn onto 34th St, and another onto Fifth Ave to head back towards Union Square, but many will split and head to Central Park to exercise our right to free speech and free assembly - BY DEFYING THE COURTS' ORDERS AND RALLYING SPONTANEOUSLY ON THE GREAT LAWN OF CENTRAL PARK - the best entrance to the park to avoid cops will probably be from the North near the Harlem Meer. See you there! --> http://www.unitedforpeace.org/
see you out in the streets,
brought to you with love by Todd P

[ SIMON FINN ]
After a 30 year break from the music industry, on the eve of the RNC, legendary psych-folk musician Simon Finn will make his NYC debut with this exclusive area performance.
“Simon Finn’s 1970 masterpiece 'Pass the Distance' is narcoleptic and nightmarish made even freakier by multi-instrumentalist David Toop’s strange accompaniment. One of the most intriguing, dark folk albums ever released. Finn's legacy looms large over the music of contemporary folk revivalists and experimenters like Richard Youngs and Devendra Banhart." - Other Music
"Spellbinding dark meditations." - Arthur Magazine

[ NO NECK BLUES BAND ]
"One of the most enigmatic and defiantly anti-commercial groups to emerge from the New York loft scene during the '90s, NNCK (as the group is often abbreviated) membership is in a state of near-constant flux. Incorporating elements of folk, drone, psychedelia, free jazz, noise, and just about everything else, NNCK has nevertheless carved out a distinctive sound. The collective has also made a name for itself through its live performances. In early 1999, NNCK toured with guitar legend John Fahey, who dubbed them his favorite new band." - All Music Guide
