Please help me find the years for these tracks...

I've been going through iTunes adding years for stuff and this is what I seem to have left undated.

If anyone can help with providing a year of first release (or even recording if they weren't released till many years afterwards) for any of them, I'd be very grateful.

I think some of them I left because they're jazz or reggae things of which there are various rerecordings, and I'm not sure which one I have, but anyway.

Ignore the numbers - just something iTunes Publisher added.

Ta!

Oh - strike 'Etcetera' from the list. I know when that was supposedly recorded, and I have no idea if the mp3 I have is it or some other random studio noodling.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 August 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it Marcus Say Jah No Dead? '78.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 29 August 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know if it is or not. It's 2:11 in length.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 August 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

It's an acappella version and it's from the 'Rockers' OST (which was 1978). Was that the original release?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 August 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I'll settle with 78 anyway. Thanks. I'm so ridiculous about my track dating project.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 August 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure you'll like 'grime'.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 29 August 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I know what you mean.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 August 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, the Phasmid one is 2002. Don't know why I'd failed to date that before.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 August 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, denny mclain! I assume that Denny McLain track is from 1969 but I couldn't say for sure. He was a one-time baseball star and his album of organ music came out that year and his legal problems began shortly after that and I don't think music was a big part of any of his post-baseball legacy (well, except his work as a radio broadcaster and time spent playing organ in a detroit bar where ex-boxer leon spinks was a bartender but none of that would have resulted in him recording bossa nova covers)

scott pl. (scott pl.), Sunday, 29 August 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no idea why I have that track. Actually, I think it's from a CDR700 MP3 CD I was sent.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 August 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

alba, the timm thaler one is not by timm thaler. its by christian bruhn, and is from the german kids tv show, "timm thaler", which i think is 1979 (it had a uk run in about 1989-90). you seem to have a truncated title also, its full title is Arawanadi Nebelthema

david acid (gareth), Sunday, 29 August 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i think the yaphet kotto one is 1974, i'll have to check that one though

david acid (gareth), Sunday, 29 August 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

no, apparently its 1968,

david acid (gareth), Sunday, 29 August 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

is the stanley cowell one on one of those stata east compilations? you should get the one with shamek farrahs first impresssions on too

david acid (gareth), Sunday, 29 August 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

a lot of those seem to be off an lp called lost deep soul treasures, mayeb the liner notes? or the kent site, if there is one?

david acid (gareth), Sunday, 29 August 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Neil Young's Too Far Gone is from Freedom, so 1989.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 29 August 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

rodney allen is 1987

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 29 August 2004 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

There are a couple of versions of "Weird Nightmare." Simple way to tell: if yours is mono, it's from the late '40s (I can check my copy of the 'West Coast 1945-1949' CD for the exact year); if it's stereo, it's from the 1960 'Pre-Bird'/'Mingus Revisited' album.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Sunday, 29 August 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"Big Bird" is '68, "Oh Happy Day" '69, "Little Liza Jane" '56, "In the Dark" '74.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Sunday, 29 August 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Neil Young's Too Far Gone is from Freedom, so 1989.

though i believe neil was playing that one live for years before Freedom came out.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah - I think it's one of those annoying live staples never released in studio form until much later, though I was wondering if it was recorded.

a lot of those seem to be off an lp called lost deep soul treasures, mayeb the liner notes?

Yeah - I have the CD. Useless liner notes (it's not a Dave Godin one).

Similarly, a few others are from the 'Philadelphia Roots' CD, again, with liner notes sparse on year info.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks for other help.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

(the version I have of 'Too Far Gone' is 2:42 in length, if that helps)

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

(I've just listened to an excerpt of the Freedom version and it's different)

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
Hey - anyone know for sure what date the Lafayette Afro Rock Band's Malik album was released. AMG says 1972, but lots of other things say 1976.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 17 October 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't Vic Goddard & the Subway Sect only around in 1978?

Sasha (sgh), Sunday, 17 October 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely not?

Another one: 'MAE' by Artefact.

This says 1979, Moe Rexsays 1981.

Anyone have the single or the So Young But So Cold: Underground French Music 1977-1983 compilation who could check?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 17 October 2004 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

alba that weird nightmare version is from mingus revisited if its the one from my cdr700 and i'm guessing it is cos so are some of the others (sorry about my fucked tagging)

bulbs (bulbs), Sunday, 17 October 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah - cheers. So you're Gaz? It's all so complicated. I love the CDR.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 17 October 2004 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

yes. good. i love yours too. it is much more organised than mine!

bulbs (bulbs), Monday, 18 October 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I kind of do that, as this thread demonstrates...

Alba (Alba), Monday, 18 October 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, while you're here, another one of yours I'd particularly like to know the date of is Manu Dibango's 'Dasiko', if you have access to sleevenotes or something.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 18 October 2004 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

will check tonight. as i recall the sleevenotes are a bit dodgy on that...its on a 3cd comp of his stuff.

bulbs (bulbs), Monday, 18 October 2004 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah - that's about the only reference I could find to it on the net. Thanks.
