'Love Machine' by Girls Aloud is very good!

Skiffle!? Rockabilly?! It's a ridiculous song and lots of fun. When they performed it on CD:UK they looked like they were having the time of their lives (even Nicola!), which I appreciated. I love how eccentric it is - does it show off the same mischeivous streak as Love Bomb from the first album?

All in all it sounds like a supremely confident group at the height of its powers - what it actually reminds me of in this respect is Spice Girls c.1998. Are Girls Aloud the best pop group since then? Are they better???

also in conjunction with The Show it now means I'm more excited about the new album (out in November) than pretty much anything else this year

cant wait for the new album.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Argh! Love Machine is the most unpleasant song I've heard in a long time. I've loved all their other singles though, so I'm willing to overlook this one.

Sort of ditto. It still sounds "average" to me. And I loved "Life Got Cold", the song everyone ELSE seems to think was rubbish. That said, the album should still be good.

wicked tune, heard the original Jump! last night, had forgotten quite how amazing a job they did on that song. Mate Carnival was ruude! I have disovered that I am 'All about' SOCA, who new?

lukey (Lukey G), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi Pete and Lukey. Yeah, 'Love Machine' is great, but it doesn't match the magnificence of 'The Show'. Fuck that, what I really want to say is did Lukey get his tings last night?

Wooden (Wooden), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

hey!! tings???

what Smiths song does Love Machine sound like?

pete b. (pete b.), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently, it's "London." Or that's at least what someone said in the comments box after I posted this song...

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

don't think it's London....Vicar In A Tutu maybe?

pete b. (pete b.), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe I'm just bitter that I can't hear this, but I'm not salivating for the album yet anyway. 'The Show' is almost like 'Hey Ya!' overrated.

they're a gift from the Gods (of reality TV?)

RIMA, I still have the song available here until tomorrow morning.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

just got it from fluxblog - cheers Matthew!

listening to it again, I can't see how anyone could find it 'unpleasant' - the section at the end with the repeated 'Oh! is just pure joy.

The line that goes "we're gift-wrapped kitty-cats" is a thing of pure, undiluted genius.

So, which of them do you want to fuck? I want the racist. < /Calum>

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly.

It's awful. Sounds like some kind of sweaty marketing man's semen-drenched Matt Bianco records being karaoked by Atomic Kitten. Although, in a rather accidental 'I preferred their earlier stuff' transposition of indie snobbery onto pop, I did actually really like their first two singles, and am appalled by the fact that the people who made such good choices for the beginning of their career have decided to cop out so horribly. Ugh.

emil.y (emil.y), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post - i want to shag all of them except for the ginger one. the racist one, especially.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

"Love Machine" is utterly supreme, maybe even better than "The Show"; certainly more fun and more bonkers. Let's go, eskimo!
