...aired again on Vh1 Classic's request show. I suppose it's a huge testament to LL's talent and staying power that he's still around today (albeit probably in not as prominent a capacity), given this clip's rather laughably dated schtick.

I don't really have a question here. And, for what it's worth, I quite like LL Cool J. This video, however, is not his finest hour.

dude he's gonna crush you like a jellybean for saying that. he's bad.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

ahahaha, remember the song he did for the Deep blue sea soundtrack where the shark's fin line was the hook? fried gold!!

\(^o^)/ (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man the deep blue sea theme song. how soon we forget.

amateur!!st, Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

"...and then LL raps about sharks" was the capper to every description I got of Deep Blue Sea. I've only seen two scenes: LL crawling through a vagina-sized hole between two ovens to escape a shark (all while TALKING to the shark) and when Samuel Jackson gets eaten. For some reason I always flip by it on TV during those sequences.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

that film had a neat twist at the end.

amateur!!st, Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

he's saying something "i KNOW you'd LIKE to EAT me, you SHARK!" while chopping away...wouldn't incoherent profanity have been more believable?

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

that movie's not so bad, it's a poor man's anaconda but definitely worth watching.

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

sexual ridicule of the poor is uncool, james

amateur!!st, Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Rollerball is a greater embarassment for LL.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

chris klein never recovered from that did he?

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man, anaconda!! two hours of Ice cube straining not to curse, jon voight's crazy ass, the endless tormenting of eric stoltz - a movie made JUST FOR ME

\(^o^)/ (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris Klein proved that Keanu Reeves doesn't strike twice.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a poor man's anaconda

That is a very poor man indeed.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

o like alien's any better (or different)

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Anaconda sucks but Deep Blue Sea is actually fairly subversive and the multiple switch endings are awfully good.
It is, as has been noted by several critics, better than any movie about super-intelligent sharks has any right to be.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

yes.

er, not that remember anything except the ending.

amateur!!st, Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

deep blue sea is great if only for samuel l. jacksons fucking rediculous monologue and subsequent early death. didnt see that one coming..

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Way to spoil th' movie!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I've seen this. There's no real twist ending to speak of. Please remind me if I'm forgetting something.

herbert hebert (herbert hebert), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, the white people all die and the black guy lives.
That's a twist.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

SPOILERS FOR THE MASTERPIECE KNOWN AS "DEEP BLUE SEA"

the pretty girl sacrifices herself for the dudes. that's a serious twist.

amateur!!st, Tuesday, 31 August 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh right, thanks, I forgot. Except that she's more than simply the pretty girl in the picture. It was her ethically flawed science that led to the super intellgient sharks to begin with, her attempts to hide this from skeptical shark wrangler THomas Jane early on resulted in the disaster which the crew eventually find themselves. So her sacrifice is really more of a gesture of redemption on behalf of a quasi villian than the unconventional act of the sexy love interest.
And then LL does a shark rap.

herbert hebert (herbert hebert), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

The people I know who saw this in theatre had a LOT more to say about the shark rap than the "twist."

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

LL also had a football rap single from the Any Given Sunday ost called "shut em' down" I think. He makes football metaphors in that one.

herbert hebert (herbert hebert), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

did he have a rollerball rap?

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

since I never saw the show, I always forget that aside from his prolific music career and ludicrous movie efforts he also had a TV show for several years. Busy man.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Rollerball (I saw it all)
in future times
the world's still mine
but I ain't nas-tradamus

I told momma not to tell me to stop
even though
future games is bank rolled and controlled by
the french guy from mission impossible
who doesn't know I'm phenomenal
lyicall gifts since 85' 100 years later
LL survives and brings down corrupted

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

And don't forget his verse on Hit 'Em High from "Space Jam"!

Lightning strikes and the court lights get dim
Supreme competition is about to begin
Above the rim, finessin' and moves is animated
Once I get to ballin', I can't be deflated
I'm rugged raw, my Monstars is gettin' money
When clicks get to buggin', I'm snatchin' up their bunnies
(Uhh!)
Every step I take shakes the ground
I'll make you break your ankles, son, shakes you down
This is my planet, I'm bout business
The best that ever done it, can I get a witness? (Uhhh!)
Cumulus clouds bring darkness up above
You in it for the money?
Or in it for the love, M.J.?
23 ways to make a pay
Loungin' in the mothership back around my way (Uhh!)
I'm 28 light years old
If the refs get political, dribble like Bob Dole
Am I gettin' lyrical?
Daddy, I think so
Monstar droppin' flavor fluid so drink slow

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

his sitcom "In The House" (which sadly, he did not do a theme song rap for) was amusing mainly for the fact that he was biting the Fresh Prince of Bel Air so hard that it had a Carlton-esque character played by none other than Alfonso Ribeiro himself.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

deep blue sea was very emjoyable and self-ironic. i loved ll's part. and he survives, too! but i don't remember - the lady in the end - does she get eaten or is it just one of the guys?

Jay Kid (Jay K), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

no pun intended

Jay Kid (Jay K), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup, she gets eaten. The SuperShark female is about to break out of the pen, so the character cuts herself and jumps in the water to lure shark back, then strangely looks surprised when she's unable to get out of the water quickly enough, and the shark bites her in half.
