you know, i have never heard this. i fear it's a black mark on my record.

I'm not sure which "noises in the middle" you're referring to - there are a lot of them - but I once read something Steve Vai wrote about this song where he said Hendrix used headphone feedback with a lot of reverb and delay.

The noises in the middle, I don't know.

I have an mp3 of a demo of this song that's just Jimi singing and playing guitar. It's so ghetto, after like the 2nd verse or something you can really clearly hear Jimi physically turning the page.

I love Ethel Merman.

Best song ever.

Yes, great song. What can you say? If you wanted to make a case for the greatness of popular music in the 60's with just a handful of tracks, this would be a really good choice for one.

Rockist_Scientist (rockist_scientist), Thursday, 9 September 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

it is a beautiful song

Everyone seems to have missed the most shocking part of this thread:

WILL SOMEONE HOOK UP JESS WITH A COPY OF ELECTRIC LADYLAND STAT!

I keep thinking of that damn Wings song from Band On The Run whenever I see this thread.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Thursday, 9 September 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

By the way, you know the part where they're coming out of the ambient section and starting to rock/freak out? There's a riff in there - somebody could probably tell better than I but do I hear possible source material for the "Are You Gonna Go My Way?" riff at that point?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 9 September 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, isn't the title just "1983 (A Merman I Should Be)"?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 9 September 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

if it's any consolation sundar i own (or owned?) copies of axis and are you experienced?.

amater!!st, Thursday, 9 September 2004 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I know LK was influenced by JH, I just thought that it sounds like almost that exact riff is played in that part.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 9 September 2004 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Friday, 21 November 2008 14:00 (seventeen years ago)

TV didn't start until 2 in the afternoon in England before then, right?

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Saturday, 22 November 2008 00:53 (seventeen years ago)
