I did this once before, but nobody had heard half of the singles in my last big black bag of singles. And where's the fun in that? This is a better batch. It's like Christmas going to the storage unit. We moved a year ago, and I still have over half of my vinyl in there. Anyway, Pick Only One and/or Taking Sides:
The Three Degrees - The Runner/Out Of Love Again (one of my all-time fave Moroder 12 inches. And that's saying something! The Runner is 8 minutes of bliss. It also makes me want to join a step-aerobics class.)
Sweet MSJ - O.J. Didn't Do It B/W DJ Nasty Knock - Jukie Baby (split bass single. the a-side being more, um, topical.)
J.S. Theracon - Buckets O' Duckats/Shake Like T.Mofo (produced by Walter "Junie" Morrison. And one of these days I will actually listen to it. My copy is still sealed.)
Frank Cornelius - Yes, I Like Fat Bottomed Girls/Instrumental (If you are going by titles...)
Axis - Rolling With Rhama (4 mixes. Todd Terry wonderfulness. nuff said.)
Inner City - Good Life/Big Fun (the essential mayday/hurley/reese/magic juan/mike wilson mixes. wait, are they all essential? i know i like one more than all the other, but i can't remember which one. anyway, this is the one to beat.)
A Guy Called Gerald - Voodoo Ray/Escape/Rhapsody In Acid/Blow Your House Down (wait, maybe this is the one to beat)
Course Of Empire - Infested (4 mixes. barely remembered hard rock band with two drummers that had one genius single in Infested. Even the dance mixes don't blow. swinging burundi beat rock at the height of grunge equalled death, but i love this thing. I actually owned the album at one point and i will repeat that they had ONE genius single in them.)
Bananarama - Really Sayin' Something/Aie A Mwana (U.S. only? To pair these two songs? I know I own the Aie A Mwana single and the U.K. Really Sayin' Something single. This single may be a cheater.)
2 Tunes In A Bag - Battle Of The Beats/Rockin' The Best (i don't know if I've ever played it. I will play it now.)
Devo - Theme From Doctor Detroit(Dance Mix)/Luv-Luv/Theme (This is sealed too, I can't remember if I've heard the dance mix. if someone tells me that it is wonderful, I'll play it. I don't know why I've never felt the urge to hear it.)
Double J - Bless The Funk (4 mixes. 45 King Production. 4th & Broadway single that I don't remember anyone getting all that excited about. Maybe I slept in that day.)
Depeche Mode - Get The Balance Right(7 inch mix)/Get The Balance Right(12 inch mix)/4 Live Tracks (this is cheating cuz it's more like an e.p. i have all those cool depeche e.p.'s with the live tracks and single/12 inch mixes. they rule. mine are french. were they all french or did they come out in the u.k. too? i know they didn't come out in the states.)
Liz Torres - Payback Is A Bitch (What Comes Around Comes Around) (6 mixes. The Bassy Bitch mix might be best. But don't quote me on that. Anyhoo, freeystyle goodness and all that.)
The Colour Field - Things Could Be Beautiful/Frosty Mornings/Pushing Up The Daisies/Yours Sincerely (Two live tracks. Genius all around.)
Portishead - Glory Box/Toy Box/Scorn/Sheared Box (People like this song a lot.)
Daft Punk - One More Time (one-sided single. cheap bastards. I payed $5.49 for this thing at the Funk-o-Mart! I demand a second side!)
Vaughan Mason - Jammin Big Guitar/Instrumental (Vaughan Mason had a really big guitar. He was known to jam. end of story.)

I really want to go with Course of Empire, since Scott slanders them (they actually put out a good album called *Telepathic Last Words* in 1998!) However I do believe Liz Torres has the best song up there that I have heared. The Inner City, A Guy Called Gerald, Banarama, and Daft Punk ones are also very good (probably in that order.) I don't know the Vaughan Mason one, but obviously "Rock Skate Roll Bounce" blows away everything on the list, so perhaps he deserves the benefit of the doubt. The best 12-inch I played yesterday in my new apartment in Queens while putting my vinyl back into alphabetical order was "Genius Rap" by Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde, I believe. Bye!
