Edu-rock: What can you actually learn from pop music?

I am writing a little throw-away piece based on that Springsteen quote "We learned more from a 3 minute record than we ever did in school" från "No Retreat, No Surrender".

So my question is: What can you actually learn from pop songs? What are the best examples of edu-rock around?

some examples:
Paul Hardcastles "19" for Vietnam and all that war stuff
Iron Maiden (Run To The Hills), Europe (Cherokee) and Neil Young (what?) are probably good starting ponts for Native Indian history in America.
R Kelly provides a background history to Chicago stepping.
and soo on

Do you have any suggestions? It's for an alternative university website.

Love,
Sebastian

The music of Louisville, KY's King Kong is often like a grade three life sciences class, only with cursing.
Sample lyrics from memory:
"I'm a robot and I need energy!"
"There used to life on Mars, now there's life on Earth. What on Earth happened to Mars?"
"On the side of the road, there was a horny toad."

Those are bad examples.

Entirely untrue information in a pop song (Bangkok by Alex Chilton)

'Here's a little something that's sure to please ya
It's just a little town down in Indonesia'

On the other hand, I'd never heard of East Timor until Robert Wyatt recorded a song of that name.

they might be giants' "james k. polk" taught me the entirety of what i know about the US's 11th president.

jonathan richman's "walter johnson" is a good primer on the early 20th century baseball great.

warren zevon's "boom boom mancini" gives you the who, what and why of the controversial boxer.

bruce springsteen's "nebraska" can fill you in on the plot of terence malick's "badlands."

Whenever I need to remember which is which of the id, ego, and superego, I think of the Dead Milkmen song "Leggo My Ego." And I was a psychology major.

There's antimony, arsenic, aluminum, selenium,
And hydrogen and oxygen and nitrogen and rhenium,
And nickel, neodymium, neptunium, germanium,
And iron, americium, ruthenium, uranium,
Europium, zirconium, lutetium, vanadium,
And lanthanum and osmium and astatine and radium,
And gold and protactinium and indium and gallium,

And iodine and thorium and thulium and thallium.

There's yttrium, ytterbium, actinium, rubidium,
And boron, gadolinium, niobium, iridium,
And strontium and silicon and silver and samarium,
And bismuth, bromine, lithium, beryllium, and barium.

Isn't that interesting?

I knew you would.
I hope you're all taking notes, because there's going to be a short quiz next period.

There's holmium and helium and hafnium and erbium,
And phosphorus and francium and fluorine and terbium,
And manganese and mercury, molybdenum, magnesium,
Dysprosium and scandium and cerium and cesium.
And lead, praseodymium, and platinum, plutonium,
Palladium, promethium, potassium, polonium,
And tantalum, technetium, titanium, tellurium,

And cadmium and calcium and chromium and curium.

There's sulfur, californium, and fermium, berkelium,
And also mendelevium, einsteinium, nobelium,
And argon, krypton, neon, radon, xenon, zinc, and rhodium,
And chlorine, carbon, cobalt, copper, tungsten, tin, and sodium.

These are the only ones of which the news has come to Ha'vard,
And there may be many others, but they haven't been discavard.

I don't eat no meat, no dairy, no sweets
only ripe vegetables, fresh fruit and whole wheat
I'm from the old school, my household smell like soul food, bro
curried falafel, barbecued tofu
no fish though, no candy bars, no cigarettes
only ganja and fresh-squeezed juice from oranges
exercising daily to stay healthy
and I rarely drink water out the tap, cause it's filthy

Lentil soup is mental fruit
and ginger root is good for the youth
Fresh vegetables with the mayatl stew
sweet yam fries with the green calalloo
careful how you season and prepare your foods
cause you don't wanna lose vitamins and minerals
and that's the jewel
life brings life, it's valuable, so I eat what comes
from the ground, it's natural
let your food be your medicine (uh huh)
no Excederin (uh uh)
strictly herb, generate in the sun, cause I got melanin
and drink water, eight glasses a day
cause that's what they say

They say you are what you eat, so I strive to be healthy
my goal in life is not to be rich or wealthy
cause true wealth comes from good health, and wise ways
we got to start taking better care of ourselves
