No.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

my friends brought up a good point last night- isn't "Prerogative" an extremely large word for Britney? i forget whether she actually sings it in the song, but i think she does.

lemin (lemin), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

britney sounds like shes being put thru the marriane faithful circa throat surgery voice filter on this cover... either that or her voice really has taken that turn twd the dark side?

CntlAllDell, Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i heard this was produced by phillip glass

peter $,,, Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

WOW, is Britney's voice horrible on this song.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Saturday, 25 September 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

She sings 'prerogative' in a slow and deliberate manner, like she's concentrating on getting the syllables out in the right order.

Madchen (Madchen), Saturday, 25 September 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

actually i kinda like the cover BECAUSE britney sounds so evil and haggard. call me cuckoo.

CntlAllDell, Saturday, 25 September 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

does this mean she will collaborate with skinny puppy soon?

CntlAllDell, Saturday, 25 September 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Goettel, Key, and Spears penned and recorded a potential follow-up EP to "Toxic" entitled "Purge: The Forensics Suite", but BMG blocked its release. Japanese bootlegs are currently trading hands on Ebay for $250.00 US a copy.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 25 September 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

this is by Bloodshy & Avant of "Toxic" fame, isn't it? better than I expected it to be.

Were this only true.

isn't "Prerogative" an extremely large word for Britney?

Well, Bobby Brown managed it -- and he's certainly not a one-man think tank.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 25 September 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I have never been more embarrassed to be alive now.

maria b (maria b), Saturday, 25 September 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

She does the main vocal in that weird multi-tracked foghorn-like voice, and it sounds really stupid, then she does the response vocal higher up and it sounds like she's sort of lazily ad-libbing a backing vocal and can't quite decide what notes to sing, and it sounds really stupid.

I wouldn't wish singing the word prerogative in a pop song on anybody though, poor girl.

Michael Philip Philip Philip Annoyman (Ferg), Saturday, 25 September 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a letdown, but not massively. I just won't buy it is all. Nice video.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Saturday, 25 September 2004 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

ain't nothing wrong with britney spreading herself around

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 25 September 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

the background vocals on this crack me up

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 25 September 2004 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Bobby Brown's original, I have to say, for it's time -- was pretty cool. (Granted, this was what? `89? I was pretty much drunk all the time that year).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 25 September 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

the original is a gas

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 25 September 2004 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

This song is a great reason to buy an Uzi.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Sunday, 26 September 2004 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Can we talke about Toni Tone Tony now?!!!?

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Sunday, 26 September 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanna see Britney in a high-top fade.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Sunday, 26 September 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to see her sing "If I Had No Loot".

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Sunday, 26 September 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Tracer, you must let go. Or else just be the leader of the London street team.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 26 September 2004 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

is this the remake of Bobby Brown??

startrekman, Sunday, 26 September 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Tony Toni Tone were great. Sons of Soul is one of my top 100 albums!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 26 September 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I really wish I had voted for "If I Had No Loot" in the '90s singles poll. It was one of the last ones I cut for my final 30. Great tune.

Mike Ouderkirk (Mike Ouderkirk), Sunday, 26 September 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

This song is a great reason to buy an Uzi.

Man, breathing is a great reason to buy an Uzi. This song, however, is a great reason to use an Uzi.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 26 September 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually had high hopes for this. There is an unrealized potential in updating bobby brown hits and hearing that she was working with the toxic producers had me expecting gold. I kind of imagined it would be faster. It has a kind of uninspired faithfulness to the original.

It should also be weirder since after months of publicity in which Britney is seen as a trailer trashy alcholic on the downward path toward humiliating self destruction, Spears specific reaction to it is to express an artistic kinship with Bobby Brown.

herbert hebert (herbert hebert), Sunday, 26 September 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I would like to add that it takes a special kind of outrageous skankiness to deliver the line "I see nothing wrong with spreading myself around" in a manner more flesh-crawlingly awful than Bobby Brown did. It's like prefab producer-driven syphillis.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Sunday, 26 September 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

SHE SUCKS SHE SUCKS SHE MOTHERFUCKING SUCKS!!!

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 26 September 2004 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

HAhahahahahahahahahaha ha ha ha ha haha ha....

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 26 September 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
I _also_ had to cut "If I Had No Loot" out at the very end!
I wonder if it was a common last minute cut?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 11 October 2004 04:28 (twenty-one years ago)

"the background vocals on this crack me up"

OTM. Is this the wtf song of the year?

Symplistic (shmuel), Monday, 11 October 2004 07:29 (twenty-one years ago)
