Boyracer, c/d?

Personally, one of my favorite of the hyper-distorted school of indie pop music. The Boyfuckingracer comp is incredible, and the newer album, To Get a Better Hold You've Got to Loosen Yr Grip was a pleasant surprise, sounding almost exactly like older Boyracer despite being almost a completely different line-up, several years after the older line-up broke up, and in a different country. In Full Colour was one of the few good albums Zero Hour ever put out (aside from Space Needle). What thinketh you?

completely agree with everything above. see them live too!

I saw them twice on their last US tour, with my girlfriend's band opening one night and me opening the next night. I sucked, but Boyracer was awesome and loud.

did you play in c-ville, VA?

brock (brock), Thursday, 7 October 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to hang around in Tokyo indie-schmindie clubs with one of Boyracer when he left to be an EFL teacher - um, Matt ?? (I'm not absolutely sure)

Yeah, actually Sarah's old band (Times Ten) opened in C-ville, and I opened the next night in Williamsburg. My band was supposed to open in Wburg, but our bass player couldn't do it, but I was so psyched about opening for Boyracer that I came up with a lame solo thing just so I could still open for them.

Boyracer are great.
As are Steward.

And it will have been Matt Green who was in Tokyo.

lame jokes aside, they're great in that "sizzle and pop and make our instruments explode by playing 2 minute pop songs as hard and fast as we can" sorta way

and extra points for an a-side called "he gets me so hard"

when stewart anderson furiously strums his guitar it is thrilling.

What!?! Zero Hour put out Shallow's High Flyin' Kid Stuff... that album is the best. i adore it more than most anything.

and that Notwist album they put out was pretty decent too..

uhm.. Boyracer... the To Get a Better Hold album is fun.. but a little long.. and all the songs are about the same quality so its hard to find one to put on a mixtape..

we've played with them on one of their many aussie tours, stewart is unbelievably lovely. i don't think i've seen their best live shows by any stretch but that first clutch of singles and the "to get a better hold..." album are all just wonderful. i wasn't so convinced by the very latest EP though...

i own two boyracer albums: 'more songs about frustration and self-hate' and 'in full colour'. their both decent albums, with the latter returning more consistently for the investment. definitely a singles band. haven't heard anything after 'in full colour', so i don't know if they continued to grow and get better. also haven't seen them live, which judging from the above laudations i regret. so although arguably an unqualified opinion, i rate boyracer average which, in my universe, equates to about one spin every year or two.

C!

got their new lp today "happenstance" they haven't lost it at all. super-romantic unbelievably-fast punk pop legends, really and the last 20 seconds or so of "he gets me so hard" is amongst my favourite collision of sounds ever.

Will they ever get the credit they deserve? Remarkably consistent while prolific. BOYRACER.

three years pass...

their last LP 'sunlight is the best antiseptic' was pretty good, i wouldn't say it was their best but then all of their full lengths have had high and low points. just picked up the wetherbeat scene book/cd, lots of very early boyracer, hood and other obscure bands from mid 80s leeds

i think of the 555-era boyracer, 'loosen yr grip' is the best album, 'happenstance' also pretty good. bracket and flickering are a bit weaker in the tunes department...
