Not quite the subject at hand, I know, but Billy Bragg used to have his live audiences whistle the trumpet solo from the "The Saturday Boy". It always sounded so beautiful.

What about Eric Idle and Monty Python singing "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life"? Key lyric: "When chewing on life's gristle, don't grumble, give a whistle."

Lovin' Spoonful - Daydream

"Saint Huck" by Nick Cave

svn, Friday, 12 November 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Eno's "Back In Judy's Jungle", if that's really whistling.

And, if you can stomach it, "I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman" by Whistling Jack Smith.

The best rock whistle, though, is the singer whistling "giddyup" going into the guitar solo on Molly Hatchet's "Flirtin' With Disaster." Or maybe the guy in the crowd who whistles for like ten seconds straight during "Do You Feel Like We Do" on Frampton Comes Alive. Nameless whistlers on double live rock albums of the 70s, come forward!

briania (briania), Friday, 12 November 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Billy Joel - "Leave a Tender Moment Alone"

May I suggest "The Stranger" as a better Wm. Joel song with whistling?

Also try "Red-Eyed & Blue" from Wilco's Being There

I hate it when my posts sound like a boring old rock critic's.
