The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Luther Allison- Luther's Blues

This is a killer record. I had heard some Allison, so I knew the guy could really play guitar, but this is an excellent album. If you like blues, 70s r&b or a fan of intense guitar playing, I can't see one not like this one.

don, Monday, 15 November 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Fred Lane - Car Radio Jerome. Deliciously warped vocals with haphazard big band style backing and lyrics that suggest some unnamed mental illness.

Luther Allison- Luther's Blues

There is a club 'dedicated' to Luther Allison here in Madison, WI called, well, Luther's Blues. They just got some new management and broke all the contracts with local bands in favor of more national acts. I don't know if this means there will be more or less gigs by wack blues shredders.

Quite a lot, as I am working on a "Top 1000 albums" list of my own, and as such I have checked out a lot of stuff that I thought I might like.

However, I think the winner, amidst several strong contenders, has to be Martin Newell's "The Greatest Living Englishman", followed by Kaleidoscope's "Tangerine Dream".

My version of this thread, for individual tracks:

It's been a bumper year for discovering new old things

Just cause I want more people to post to it.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 06:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian,

Here's me freaking out the day I first heard William Basinski:

DROPDEAD!!! I've been going to Dropdead shows for like six years or something. They're probably the only band I've been seeing for such a long time and would still totally go see. I think they're taking some sort of hiatus while one of them (bob i think?) is in Japan.
