At the time I liked Spice World more, perhaps because Geri ran the show and she was so camp; her energy carries the weaker tracks whereas on Spice the weaker tracks are just weak. The singles on Spice (with the exception of "Mama") are untouchable though.

My younger sister stole my copies of these albums so I can't dig them out and compare them now.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

(The funny thing is before I saw who wrote this I thought it might have been Nicole -- then again, her younger sister is more into Stereophonics.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

2 Becomes 1>>Every other Spice Girls song. Therefore Spice wins.

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

My opinion is identical to Tim's, once you swap "Spice" for "Spice World" and vice versa.

Wooden OTM.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably agreed re "2 Become 1", though I love "Say You'll Be There" as well.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

"2 Become 1" cannot be stopped, I agree. Before now I thought I was alone is loving it more than "Wannabe". I guess they're both confirmed classics.

Maxwell von Bismarck (maxwell von bismarck), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The perfect Spice Girls compilation would consist of Spice World, plus the singles off Spice. "2 Become 1" obviously the stand-out track.

"Spice Up Your Life" is one of the most bizarre girl group songs ever, surely? Especially lyrically - "yellow man in Timbuktu", wtf?

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, whichever one has Spice Up Your Life. That song rules.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

"...Colour for both me and you/kung fu fighter/dancing queen/tribal spaceman and all that's inbetween."

Watch out Stephen Merritt!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't remember who wrote "Spice Up Your Life" but surely only Geri was mad enough to have penned those lines.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck i love the spice girls

reo, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

"2 Becomes 1" = string arrangement to kill for.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I will have to pick "Spiceworld", because it contains "Viva Forever", "Too Much" and "Viva Forever", their best three singles.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Geir, don't ever change.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Geir is a black belt master of the 'triple'.

Masked Gazza, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Spice up your life was certainly one of the best songs of the 90's. It never ceased to bring down the roof, or floor or whatever was being danced on, right JB?

danh (danh), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Underrated Spice non-singles:

Never Give Up On The Good Times (largely for the ribbiting frog noise in the mix)
Outer Space Girls (basically, Backstreet's Back, except done by the Spice Girls)
Naked (Surely predicted that Emma Bunton would have the bestest solo career, non?)
Denying (sort of funky in a rather subdued way)

At various times, any of the singles off the first two albums is my favourite SG song evah, but lately, I think it has to be "Say You'll Be There", but Spice World is the better album overall.

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm listening to Mel C hollering over the outro to "Who Do You Think You Are?" at the moment, and it's great. It's such an aerobics song (in the best possible sense obv)!

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw once, Asda doing a chuckout of the final Spice Girls album for a pound each. They must have had 200 copies there.

Next day, they'd all gone. Make of that what you will.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Based on that, I'd say you're turning into the groutfox.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i can't choose, i love them both. AND "FOREVER" IS REAL GOOD TOO but no-one seems to know.

mrs emma bunton, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i mean imagine having to choose between 2 become 1 and viva forever. maybe i would choose spice world because it is the soundtrack to the greatest movie ever made. but on the other hand, wannabe is the best pop song in the history of humans. oh, umm, ah, umm.

mrs emma bunton, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

The attitude in this thread was sorely needed in that bloody albums poll.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Gear sez:

Spice Girls Spice 127 points, 10 votes

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

SPICEWORLD by a long way. Probably I'm influenced by the film, which blew my mind the first few times I watched it. Which reminds me, why didn't "Leader of the Gang" make it onto the album.

everything, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Never Give Up On The Good Times
doesn't this sound like Matthew Wilder" Break My Stride"

me, Thursday, 25 November 2004 02:54 (twenty-one years ago)

is there a greatest hits

I don't know how "Stop" didn't get any love in this thread, but that's the best one. It's on SpiceWorld and it follows the also great "Spice Up Your Life".

Spiceworld>Spice.

brontosaur, Thursday, 17 August 2017 20:10 (eight years ago)

Spice > Spice World, methinks. It'd be a tougher call if we were just talking about the singles, but I think the album tracks on Spice are better on the whole. The last track on Spice World is particularly awful.
