Anyone still using russian mp3 sites? I was looking at groove-bay and they have some terrific stuff but will they take all my money?
― Ned Trifle II, Friday, 7 March 2008 22:57 (eighteen years ago)
I use mp3skyline.com...not sure it's "Russian" but it is sketchy enough to be. So far I haven't been defrauded. Great selection, and they have all sorts of dance/house that was only released on vinyl and is impossible to find, legit or not. If you're worried, you can look into getting a temporary CC#.

Yeah, Russians put out some terrific fraud. The CD story I patronize across from PCC stocks ex-Commie double LPs on one CD jobs. Tull, Hendrix, the Beatles, 10CC, The Stones. Great sound and packaging, all criminal.

Slade & Status Quo, too! The ex-Commie crooks know their classic Brit rock and how to deliver it, that's fer sure.

Why the fuck would anyone pay for illegal mp3s?
― Colonel Poo, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:12 (eighteen years ago)
It's not that the sites themselves will directly steal yr money. It's that they'll sell the number to someone else who will.
― libcrypt, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:19 (eighteen years ago)
because they want the convenience+quality and it's cheap enough to make people think paying 14p (even if it is via online debit) for an old track they're after and can't find easily for free is a good deal. xp
― blueski, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:20 (eighteen years ago)
Just keep a close eye on that credit card statement and credit report.
― libcrypt, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:21 (eighteen years ago)
i haven't noticed any articles out there re 'i bought some mp3s from russian site but now hundreds of pounds have mysteriously gone out of my account' yet altho haven't looked too hard.

Funny how Westerners retain this notion of "pure" capitalism, even when it's impeded by intellectual property theft.
― libcrypt, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:26 (eighteen years ago)
Not saying I'm innocent, tho.
― libcrypt, Saturday, 8 March 2008 01:30 (eighteen years ago)
You're giving Westerners too much credit.

presumably:
they have all sorts of dance/house that was only released on vinyl and is impossible to find, legit or not
― toby, Saturday, 8 March 2008 03:57 (eighteen years ago)
Precisely!
For instance I want 'Insomniac' by Kensuke Shiina. It's avalable from teh above mentioned site for 15 cents. Now obviously Shiina won't be gettign a cent for this but as it's not available except on second hand discs he won't be seeing a cent anyway.
