From the NME site:

MORRISSEY has announced that he will release his new single ’I HAVE FORGIVEN JESUS’ on December 13.

The track will be the singer’s fourth this year and will come backed by ’Slum Mums’ and ’The Public Image’ on the maxi-CD version.

Say it's true! The PIL track! Yeah!

Hmmm.

"My entrance, my own creation
My Grand Finale, My Goodbye"

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 25 November 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, it apparently is a cover.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 25 November 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Excellent.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 25 November 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

"You never listened to a word I said oh ah hah ohhh"

Maxwell von Bismarck (maxwell von bismarck), Thursday, 25 November 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Was that "oh ah hah ohhh" supposed to be the "oh ah hah ohhh" from "What Difference Does It Make"? 'Cos that was certainly the "oh ah hah ohhh" that I heard in my head as I read it - and it definitely worked for me!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 25 November 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

You never listen to a word that I said
You only seen me
For the clothes that I wear
Or did the interest go so much deeper
Imust have been
The colour of my hair

So, what difference does it make?
So, what difference does it make?
It makes none
But now you have gone
And you must be looking very old tonight

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 25 November 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

MEDLEY!

Whatever pass
Could never last
All in your mind
Where it all began
You're doing wrong
It's not the movies
And you're old

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 25 November 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to hear John Lydon do "This Charming Man".

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 25 November 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i want to hear john lydon do morrissey violently around the head with a dead shark/large piece of tree trunk.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 25 November 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

at least he's still a babe, that's all he has going for him anymore, in my opinion...

reo, Thursday, 25 November 2004 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I kind of thought it wasn't a cover?--though it would be really funny if it was.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 26 November 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Really? I looked at some message boards, and most seemed to think it was a cover...not the most reliable source of information, though some implied they had heard it, by arguing over whose version was better.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Friday, 26 November 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"The", tho?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 26 November 2004 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

"The Public Image belongs to me".

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 26 November 2004 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I need to know for sure...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 26 November 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I have seen people talking about it being a cover--but it just seemed so uncharacteristic--I assumed they were joking. The title fits in so much with his other council-flat-centric B-sides, that I just assumed it was more of the same. I can't imagine what this cover would sould like! I think Moz would suck all the life out of it? He's been playing a ton of his B-sides live, unfortunately not either of these two. On the subject of covers, I am hopefully awaiting a release of his cover of "Redondo Beach," beautiful live, and it would also be nice if he fleshed out his few lines of "Subway Train" at the beginning of EDILS into a full-blown cover. Judging from these covers, if it is the Lydon song, it is about to be transformed into a ballad. . . .

Mary (Mary), Friday, 26 November 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

'No One Can Hold A Candle To You' is a b-side on the 7" and one of the cd-singles, though, so that might imply a more cover friendly Morrissey. Obviously the fact that Public Image hasn't been played live makes it more difficult to tell. I don't know what is going on.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Friday, 26 November 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Uncharacteristic? No more than "That's Entertainment" was.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 29 November 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I would have thought so, yes.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 29 November 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

The horror... the horror...

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry Mark, I searched around and I am 99.9 percent certain this is NOT a cover. However, this video reaches a new high for Moz-weirdness:

Mary (Mary), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

"Oh, hello...
hello...
Hello, la la la
haw haw haw haw..."

donut christ (donut), Monday, 29 November 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm more excited about "I have forgiven Jesus". Sure, it's very much a Morrissey song title, though a little more direct, and probably something a lot of his current fanbase will wonder about...

donut christ (donut), Monday, 29 November 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

T'naw!

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 09:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Listen to a snippet of the 2 new B-sides here:

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Look I'm at work right now I can't listen. Is it a cover or isn't it? [dying from suspense]

Bimble (bimble), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, I'm at work and can't lisen either, but someone on another board quoted a lyric as "saucer-eyed-on-the-estate" or something, thus I believe I can emphatically rule, NOT A COVER.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

My god he is really morphing into Jim Neighbors.

svend (svend), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to pride myself of my knowledge of Moz b-sides.. I almost wept at the LA show the other night because I had no fucking idea of what songs he was playing.

still bevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, that's sad. Yeah, when I looked at the songs that are to be included on the deluxe edition of Quarry I was upset that I had obviously not caught them all.

Bimble (bimble), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

The really stupid thing about this spate of B-sides is that the "deluxe edition" isn't actually going to have all of the B-sides on it. The one's from this latest single, and if he releases a (gasp) 5th single will not be on it. So, there will have to be a platinum edition of the deluxe edition?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

All too true. :(

I read on DJ Martian's site today that not too long ago Morrissey had said he expects to release a new album in 2005 so jeez that just means more b-sides doesn't it? Our work is never done!

Bimble (bimble), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

A new album in 2005? Are you sure that wasn't referring to a new SINGLE in 2005? He had better wrap us his tour and get back in the studio. Meanwhile, the good folks at Moz-solo are all abuzz about his impending "retirement."

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

two years pass...

Wait a minute, Morrissey does WHAT?

According to the Guardian, Morrissey has written a 660 page autobiography and is currently shopping it around with publishers. He really wants it to go to Penguin Classics because, well, that's a very Morrissey type thing to want.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 25 April 2011 03:21 (fifteen years ago)

lol. perhaps he'll try to get his latest turgid rockabilly reheat on deutsche grammaphon.

henri grenouille (Frogman Henry), Monday, 25 April 2011 05:19 (fifteen years ago)

It's more than likely been posted elsewhere but..

I her that Linder took that photo. Phew. Imagine being his long-suffering guitarist, called into the hotel room "Oh, Simon... Take a piccie of me plz?"
