train-spotter-ish BASIC CHANNEL question

so there's this record that came out a few years ago by a basic channel / chain reaction artist on another label. it was sort of like hard techno with lots of hiss and scary sonar pings

i am almost sure it was VARIOUS ARTISTS but it's not turning up in their discography.

the 12" had a picture on the flipside of the label was of a SUBMARINE coming straight at you, peeking halfway up out of some stormy arctic seas.

it was a great single, and really scary. does anybody remember who it was by?

I would go with fluxion.

Your description of the picture reminded me of the Silex (aka Fluxion) single here with the blue label -- I don't know what that's supposed to be ... I suppose it could be a sub.

The first track on side two sort of fits your description, it's got a speaker-quaking bass line, no hi-hats but lots of pops, clicks and spooky noises.

Porter Ricks "Trident/Scuba Patrol"? Maybe?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 26 November 2004 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i was going to say "trident," too, but i can't find my copy to check the label...

four years pass...

can somebody tell me which is the "a-side" of phylyps trak ii? is it the paired down minimal beat tool that everyone always plays, or the noisy fast tempo hissed out one that no one seems to play?

Don't Basic Channel records kind of not actually have A and B sides. I always kind of appreciated how they reject siding their records (at least of all the BC records I have don't have A/B etched into the runout).

It's the overplayed (but always a pleasure to hear) track.

…With the skanking stabs. My favourite way to play it is behind The Sweetest Girl by Scritti Politti. Works a treat.

Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 19 September 2009 09:11 (sixteen years ago)

no, the track everyone plays is the b side, trak ii/ii. the one no-one plays is the a side. proof = http://basicchannel.com/item/BC-09 and the fact that trak ii/ii is on the cd.
