not sure if its different for the states, but i think the sleeve is totally wrong that they have next to the blurb for wiley's album. then at the end, they say 'wiley will undoubtedly go down in british hip hop history next to the best of them (dizzee rascal, skinner. jeru the damaja). JERU? er, hes from brooklyn, not bow.

its on page 106 in the new urb with talib kweli and jean grae on the cover.

any other examples of erroneous advertising?

This the same Virgin Megastores who recently announced that they were going to cease stocking records by artists including Wiley and Jeru The Damaja because "they don't sell enough"?

im going to assume that's a joke.

No seriously, Virgin said they were going to cut back on CD stocks in their shops and taking out "minority" acts who didn't sell sufficient quantities of CDs. Long list which ranges from the above to Des O'Connor. Apparently they are going to exponentially increase the number of DVDs that they stock instead.

The fact that the Jeru back catalogue is currently only available as v. expensive and not very well packaged imports might account in part for his imminent absence from the racks of Megastores.

so its 'hit or nothing' to stay in stock? thats ridiculously unfair. thank god for selectadisc and the indie shops.

I blame hipsters for buying their minority acts in trendy independent shops instead of chainstores.

I like the "NME/Kerrang Recommends" sections in HMV nowadays. They help bring my attention to many exciting and new acts.

this whole thing re DVD's is becoming scary.

the % of the shops floor space now is heavily weighed to DVD its not true - both HMV and Virgin are leading this trend.

i just dont get it.

afterall - how many times do you watch a film vs listening to a decent album ?

but folks cant get enuff of second rate films on shiny new discs ..

i just dont get it.

DVDs take longer to download?

martin (martin), Friday, 26 November 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

that is true - DVDs take an age.

the virgin stores here in the states (chicago and nyc are the one i know) are always incredibly well-stocked with the newest dance/electronic stuff. the problem is that they overprice (imports that have domestic distribution are about $5-15 more which is ridiculuous) and they are always behind forced exposure or the better independents. the stores are good places to kill a few hours anyway...

it's tricky (disco stu), Friday, 26 November 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)
