Not that much to choose from, but certainly enough for a POX anyway:

My take:
1. Live And Let Die
2. Goldfinger
3. For Your Eyes Only
4. The World Is Not Enough
5. A View To a Kill
6. Nobody Does It Better
7. Goldeneye
8. The Living Daylights
9. Tomorrow Never Dies
10.You Only Live Twice

without looking at Geir's...

1. "Live & Let Die"
2. "Goldfinger"
3. Instrumental from "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"
4. "A View To a Kill" (great tune, shit film)
5. "You Only Live Twice"
6. "Nobody Does it Better" (my wedding song, I hate to admit)
7. "Diamands are Forever"
8. "Thunderball"
9. "For Your Eyes Only"
10. "The Living Daylights" (once again, great tune -- shit film)

I can't do a POX at the moment, but I wanted to add that in addition to the title tracks, John Barry's soundtracks are really good... especially whenever he's scoring action in space, it seems (You Only Live Twice & especially Moonraker [during the space station reveal... it's actually pretty elegant]).

Yeah - exactly. I don't know the titles of many sections, but it's certainly not all about the theme songs.

But on the subject of those, the last good one was 'For Your Eyes Only'.

Best non-theme song is 'We Have All The Time In The World', followed by 'Underneath The Mango Tree'.

I liked all the themes up to the A-ha one.

1. You Only Live Twice
2. Casino Royale
3. "We Have All The Time In The World"
4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
5. Goldfinger
6. Diamonds Are Forever
7. View To A Kill
8. From Russia With Love
9. Live And Let Die (not any version involving Axl Rose)
10. The Living Daylights

I liked all the themes up to the A-ha one.

Surely you will concede that the Octopussy one was rubbish ('All Time High?')

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 27 November 2004 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

No way! I love it.

KeithW (kmw), Saturday, 27 November 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

The worst one is Moonraker; however, myself and my friend Matthew are big fans of the disco version that turns up at the end.

KeithW (kmw), Saturday, 27 November 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I quite like Moonraker! Obviously the worst of the Bassey trio, but it has a certain snazzy MOR charm. Also, I like the lyric is happy to just rah on about a Moonraker like it makes any sense at all.

The thing is, I had a copy of James Bond's Greatest Hits when I was a kid. 'For Your Eyes Only' was the last one covered on there and I loved that album so much that all subsequent songs have seemed like pale addenda to me. When I think of Bond themes, I start getting very traditionalist and thinking that pop music has gone down the dumper in the last 25 years.

1. Goldfinger
2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
3. The Living Daylights
4. View to a Kill
5. We Have All the Time in the World
6. Nobody Does it Better
7. A John Barry instrumental peice from You Only Live Twice that was sampled on an Acen tune - it goes 'Bom bom bom ba-ba! Ba-ba-ba! Bom bom!'
8. Goldeneye
9. Live and Let Die
10. Diamonds Are Forever

Wooden (Wooden), Saturday, 27 November 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

in no order of preference:

1. You Only Live Twice
2. Live and Let Die
3. For Your Eyes Only
4. Diamonds Are Forever
5. All Time High
6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
7. A View To A Kill
8. The Living Daylights
9. Goldfinger
10. Dr. No theme

and non themes:

James Bond theme
The Thunderball suite
Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

I'd have either Moonraker or All Time High as my wedding song. The begining of Moonraker is impossibly beautiful.

I love "Goldeneye" but I was always disturbed by the bit where Tina sings "You'll never know how I watched you from the shadows as a child!" Perhaps partly because it's a jarring reminder of James Bond's unquestioned immortality.

Favorite spoof album title in the original Rutles package: "Nobody Does It Wetter."
