Since I know just about every song title by you-know-who (Duran Duran, just in case you don't know yet), I thought I'd look up some DD song titles and see who else performed songs by those titles:

"Hold Me" - Fleetwood Mac, Charlie Sexton, The Cardigans, Patti Austin
"Out of My Mind" - Buffalo Springfield, Jerry Lee Lewis, Pearl Jam, The Stranglers
"Planet Earth" - Sun Ra, Devo, Michael Jackson, Brave New World
"Serious" - Alice Cooper, Five, Gwen Stefani
"Land" - Comsat Angels, Mick Karn, Patti Smith
"The Chauffeur" - The Fitness, Nina Simone
"None of the Above" - Steppenwolf, Weakerthans
"Stop Dead" - The Cure
"Like an Angel" - Pop Will Eat Itself, Yngwie Malmsteen, The Mighty Lemon Drops
"Still Breathing" - Hazel O'Connor
"Point of No Return" - Buzzcocks, Elvis Costello, Expose, Nu Shooz

I can't believe I stayed up this late just so I could get in enough time to answer this question.

I'm Impressed you know the bside "like an angel"
"the flame" - arcadia / cheap trick
did Jimmy Eat World do a cover of "New Religion"?
"Serious"Anita Baker

jim marks, Wednesday, 1 December 2004 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

You're impressed because I could name an early Duran b-side? Prepare to be even ASTOUNDED -- the others I wasn't sure I was going to find duplicates of included "Faster Than Light", "To the Shore", "Secret Oktober", "Late Bar", and "Faith in this Colour". Wait! There are others. I am fairly certain 7&TRT is the one album of theirs with the most "original" song titles, what with "The Seventh Stranger", "Of Crime and Passion", "Tiger Tiger", "(I'm Looking for) Cracks in the Pavement", "Union of the Snake", and "I Take the Dice". I'm also not so uncertain there are duplicates of "So Long Suicide", "Be My Icon", "Electric Barbarella", "Sin of the City", "Lake Shore Driving", "I Don't Want Your Love", "Too Late Marlene", "I Believe/All I Need to Know", "American Science", "A Matter of Feeling", "Skin Trade", "Medazzaland", or "UMF".

Also: Yes, Jimmy Eat World did do a cover of "New Religion", on the 1997 DD tribute album with the really gaudy birthday cake cover and the really awesome Deftones cover of "The Chauffeur". (If a devoted fan tells you a cover of the band they're a huge fan of is "really awesome", that should tell you something. *smile*) Thank you for alerting me to the Anita Baker "Serious", too!
