There was a "Pulp" in the Chicago suburban alternative cover band circuit about five years ago who were apparently unaware that the name was already taken by a band who probably should have been part of their ourve.
And it would seem that no local rock scene can go on for very long without a band called "Soylent Green".

There used to be a boyband here in Canada called Indecision. When an American hardcore punk band with the same name came calling, the Canuck Indecision quickly became Souldecision, which is surely the most seamless legality-induced name change ever.

There was another Utopia other than Todd Rundgren's lot. Apparently they were a splinter from Amon Duul II, and recorded one album in 1973.

There was also another 'The Eagles', a mainly instrumental rock 'n' roll band from Bristol active in the early 1960s.

Screaming Trees - one was Mark Lanegan's band, and the other was a British synthpop duo who released an album in 1987 and ended up changing their name to Success. I'm pretty sure both bands were named after a distortion pedal, i.e.
