"House of Fun" by Madness is the greatest video ever filmed.

I defy you to name a more pleasing display of wantonly uninhibitted jackassery.

Great song too!

No the best video is thisone.

Pekka Halonen, Monday, 29 November 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

You are mistaken, Pekka.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 29 November 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think he is.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 29 November 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

You may not think he is, Dan, but I know he is.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 29 November 2004 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

j/k

Pekka, Monday, 29 November 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I kinda liked the version on the Young Ones episode, specifically when the singer threatened Rik.

donut christ (donut), Monday, 29 November 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I always preferred Night Boat To Cairo for its absolute low budgetness.

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Monday, 29 November 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

It isn't even the greatest Madness video. That would be "Our House".

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

"Do you know 'Summer Holiday' by Cliff Richard?"

"You hum it, we'll smash your face in."

Ian Moraine (Eastern Mantra), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

that building they are playing in front of is five minutes walk from myu house, right near my old secondary school

lukey (Lukey G), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

geir otm (tho the greatest video ever will likely be by madness - i nominate 'one better day', or perhaps 'grey day')

stevie (stevie), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

the only good bit is the guy playing the sax being lifted off the ground by a crane

'Wings Of A Dove' is a great Madness video.

but the greatest music videos ever made are on the Spike Jonze, Chris Cunningham and Michel Gondry DVDs.

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

another nudge for Grey Day.

i love the part where the lads peer in through the window twist Sugg's legs.

and Sun and Rain with Lee Kix with the Rocket suit .. fun daze ..

Search: The great passage in Julian Cope's Repossessed about him and Dorian becoming hypnotically addicted to watching a Madness video compilation while tripping, and sitting there drooling things like "Madness are my friends!".

M Carty (mj_c), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the main problem about "Wings Of a Dove" is it was so obviously their worst ever single.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

nah. that would "driving in my car."

i loved Madness but this one single pushed me to the edge ..

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

the worst Madness single is 'I Pronounce You' by some distance, followed by 'Lovestruck'

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i loved Lovestruck. 'i pronounce you' .. ahem. The Madness. different. pedantic arse that i am today.

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

If The Madness stuff counts, then how about the Fink Brothers, too? Judge Dredd tie-in 'Mutants in Mega City One' was a piece of crap!

M Carty (mj_c), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

that one was ace. the square picture disc alone was worthy .. if only my cousin hadn't nicked the fragger.

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

There was actually a video for that song too - I saw it once on whatever the Saturday morning ITV kids' show of the period was (number 73 or similar). They had two members of Madness in the studio dressed as Mean Machine and Fink Angel for an interview. The video itself was made up of lots of zooms on coloured in Dredd pictures with word bubbles corresponding to the lyrics.
I imagine that was the only time it was ever on telly!

M Carty (mj_c), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

That, in turn, was not Madness's best video.

M Carty (mj_c), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

It isn't even the greatest Madness video. That would be "Our House".

You're completely high again, Geir. "House of Fun"'s rampant silliness, cross dressing and wilfully idiotic choreography completely trumps "Our House" (wherein what happens? Not very much). "House of Fun" is also a better song, but that's not what this thread is about.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the fact that the video subtly explains what the song's explicitly about (buying condoms) which i must admit flew way over 6 year old stevie's head when it came out.

stevie (stevie), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I still cry with laughter when they're dancing in their dresses in the shop.

Maybe I just love blokes in dresses.

Buffalo Stan (Buffalo Stan), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

See, there ya go!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

All that relentless lovable scampery brings me down...

Bob Six (bobbysix), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I love "House Of Fun" too (the video), but I still find "Our House" funnier.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Dunno, but every time I've seen the "House of Fun" videogram, they've always got the "fade out" ending rather than the original UK single ending!!! (Which you get even on the Young Ones "Boring" performance, even though it's been edited to bits!!!!!!) It's the ending with the third repeat of the final chorus jumping abruptly into a massive crashing dischord, which fades off into fairground noises!!!! All the compils appear to have the "fade off" ending instead, the boring pillocks!!!!!

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

'Our House' video good for the way the 'mum' jumps out of the front door when answering the bell. and in the Young Ones where matey hurls his sax at the camera.
