on Load! where's the 'biggest departure" thread? This is awesome - totally murky, evil, downer noise - sounds like a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BAND

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I was pissed that Armageddon (the only good record store left in Providence) didn't have any in stock! But I do plan to get it--everything I've heard about it is totally positive; they keep getting better with each record, it seems--that first one on Load was a piece of shit after the relatively enjoyable 7" on Freedom From.. but all uphill since then.

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got a copy and am pondering it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you heard any of their earlier stuff, Mister Ned?

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i meant to mention this is great! they sound sad for losing their good buddy to the country of england.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

roffle!

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i guess i better send you all the upcoming wwvv stuff for free then, huh?

there's a killer tour brewin, my man. You didn't hear it from me, but in early March there may or may not be a tour involving bands who's names sound like Scare A Geese, Bubbled Lepers, Red Cuisines and Couldn't John Antler Banish Invoice. We're workin' on it...

The Devil, plainly (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

RF, you guys should definitely make it out to SF/OAK.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i think some of us will be out there in january, doing some recording with the jewe11ed antler folks. maybe we can organize some gigs - i'll put the feelers out - thanks dude

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

SENDING ME THINGS FOR FREE GUARANTEES LOVE.

Keep me updated about tour plans; you know I'll make it out if you guys come within a bus ride.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Come to LA too please. No one will be there but me, but I will enjoy it okthanksbye.

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian you want I should burn you a copy of this since you're burning all that stuff for me?

stephen morris, Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I can put that solo Panda Bear on there too, if you don't have it. It's like Campfire Songs for when your lonely.

stephen morris, Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

nahhh.. i'll probably go sell some CDs and get the LP tomorrow, but thanks! and i'll get all that CD burning stuff done eventually; i'm a very lazy boy... but it will be done done done.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

also rog, look for a short review of the wwvv fuckit tape on stylus this week.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you heard any of their earlier stuff, Mister Ned?

Not to my knowledge, so it will be a fresh encounter all around.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

interesting. i don't think you'd have any interest at all in the earlier stuff, FWIW.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Ya never know. But we'll start with what I've got.

Oh BTW, amuse yourself.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

From the main menu you can press down or somesuch and get to the hidden Dan St. Jacques feature; every band he's been in is guaranteed genius. There's a video of him on there at the infamous Landed show where he sets himself ablaze.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian and I saw the majority of this DVD last summer. SO 2003 GUYZ

TITS.JPG (ex machina), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I am eternally on the cusp of 1907.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Load Records' considerable reputation had already been established thanks to championing such bands as Lightning Bolt and Wolf Eyes

uh... Wolf Eyes/Load what?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, I meant Lightning Eyes (which would make one hell of a band name).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, they are on the DVD Gygax! And Ben from load /does/ know and love the wolf guys...

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

TS: Ann Arbor vs. Providence

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Ann Arbor might win now, but I don't really know what's going on there aside from WE right now. I like a lot of Detroit noise/noisy bands. Providence about five years ago would lay waste to all MI noisers.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm just saying it's an awkward way of opening a review:

"(this label) blah blah blah which has always championed (famous band on label) and (famous band not on label)."

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

It's also a good way to get people more interested in said DVD seeing as Wolf Eyes are more of a known entity than some these days.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

nonetheless i don't think that first sentence is true (in Wolf Eyes case):

"Load Records' considerable reputation had already been established thanks to championing such bands as Lightning Bolt and Wolf Eyes..."

I mean, you said amuse yourself. Consider me amused.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"some" like the White Mice, one of Providence's most entertaining live bands. The only recordings of them I've heard are frustratingly lofi demos and practice tapes. One hopes they will enter a studio someday. xpost

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:22 (twenty-one years ago)

The White Mice track was definitely a fave. Nicely insane looking.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:27 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, and i actually have three or four live shows from the the past couple of years on mp3 format, if anyone's interested... they're great great fun.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:31 (twenty-one years ago)

The Mice of Mendes EP has pretty good sound quality. I'm sharing it on slsk.

Matt Boch (Matt Boch), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 06:38 (twenty-one years ago)

ian, e-mail me and i'll get you a copy of it.

todd burns (toddburns), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 06:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I love the Sightings "absolutes" lp on riot season, super good. One of the Sightings guys plays guitar on a track on the Wasteland album too ya know . . .

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 07:28 (twenty-one years ago)

How's the Burmese record? I was going to pick up this, or that, unless of course they're both perfect, which means I'll have to sell a kidney or something

Jason J, Tuesday, 30 November 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

"Providence about five years ago would lay waste to all MI noisers."

Totally wrong. Wrong in new and spectacular ways.

Jason, it's pretty good - better than the last one on Tumult. Very Whitehouse in the titles dept.

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, Jaymez, at least give me my hometown pride... FORCEFIELD/LIGHTNING BOLT/LANDED/OSS/ARAB ON RADAR/6FINGERSATELLITE..

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

The Burmese did nothing for me -- listened twice so far and I can't remember how it even sounds. The new Sightings, while not quite as universe-ending as "Absolutes," is still reasonably great.
