Artists that are hardly very profilic

Speaking of lately here. If an act released 1-2 albums a year during the 70s, and now only released 1-2 albums a decade, then said act fits well into this thread in spite of a more profilic output earlier on.

Anyway, examples are:

The Blue Nile
My Bloody Valentine
Kraftwerk
Peter Gabriel
Stereo MCs
Leftfield
Stevie Wonder
Michael Jackson
Talk Talk
Scott Walker

Michael Jackson's album releases:
1979, 1982, 1987, 1991, 1995, 2001. Hardly very profilic, and likely to become even considerably less profilic during the forthcoming 10-15 years....

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

o come now if michael jackson isn't profilic then who is?

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, not too long ago, it wasn't unusual to release an album a year. Or even more than that in the 60s.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

and likely to become even considerably less profilic during the forthcoming 10-15 years.

or even the next 25 considering he'll probably be in prison

Um, Brian Wilson anyone? LOL

maria b (maria b), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Dammit, Leelee you beat me to the punch!

Daft Punk is a fairly contemporary act but I think they still fit the criteria.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

MBV, Talk Talk and Leftfield all SPLIT UP ffs.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Bark Psychosis

Yeah, Talk Talk were reasonably prolific till they, like, split up!
Peter Gabriel recently has been very un-prolific though, true.

Peter Hollo (raven), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

but Peter Gabriel has split up. Artistic differences, prob.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

george michael. he also split up, but somebody did sew him back together. not a very nice job, though.

How about the reverse - artists that are very prolific & maintain the quality. Examples: Fairport Convention (1968-71) 7 albums, including 3 brilliant ones in 1969; Bryan Ferry (1972-74) - 4 Roxy albums & 2 solos; Bowie 1972-77 etc

Guided by Voices

Huey (Huey), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh sorry, maintain the quality.

Huey (Huey), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, Brian Wilson anyone? LOL

He's had two new studio albums out this year. Maybe in the '90s this would fit, but...

How about the reverse - artists that are very prolific & maintain the quality

the Clash - counting doubles and triples, eight albums in five years, plus non-LP singles, EPs, side-projects and ghosting another whole album for someone's girlfriend. and not that much of it sucked dog balls.

Prince during the 80s to thread then.

Leonard Cohen's not exactly Mr Prolofic is he?!?!?! He just disappears for years, and then re-appears from nowhere with a few more new songs on an album called "A Few More New Songs" or something!!!! And then shocks everyone by doing a follow-up less than two years later!!!!! And then disappears again!!!!!

Hotpants, Wednesday, 1 December 2004 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

Roger Waters actually hasn't come up with any newly written material since "Amused By Death". That is more than 16 years ago now.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 20 June 2008 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not a fan but didn't Boston take awhile between albums.

steampig67, Friday, 20 June 2008 23:40 (eighteen years ago)

jeff, Friday, 20 June 2008 23:47 (eighteen years ago)

Pillbox, Saturday, 21 June 2008 07:48 (eighteen years ago)

Leonard C: OTM

New Order pretty much fits the bill, at least since 1989.

Pillbox, Saturday, 21 June 2008 08:10 (eighteen years ago)

Portishead. WTF were they doing for the last ten years anyway??

Now if only The Sundays would sneak out a new album...

turkey, Saturday, 21 June 2008 08:46 (eighteen years ago)

What about Derrick May? In the 80s and early 90s the guy put out a slew of singles tha helped define a genre, but he hasn't released any new material for what - 15 years now? What happened to him? Is he content with just DJing these days?

Tuomas, Saturday, 21 June 2008 11:35 (eighteen years ago)

New Order pretty much fits the bill, at least since 1989.

They didn't exist for the most part of the second half of the 90s though, did they?
