Songs where a word gets repeated a lot.

e.g. "Ello john got a new motor" where Alexei Sayle sings "Motor" * 14 times.

(in a row, I should add/clarify)

Ashanti - Baby

I wouldn't be surprised if she says baby 500 times in that song.

Leelee, Tuesday, 30 November 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

paul johnson - get get down

nick.K (nick.K), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Devo's cover of 'Satisfaction' says baby a lot, but because it's altered it's kind of hard to say how many.

Leelee, Tuesday, 30 November 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The thing with the Devo track is that it sounds as if (in order to prolong Mothersbaugh's breath, and because it sounds cool) they have faded in another track of him saying 'baby' half way through, so the echoey, overlapping effect makes it hard to count. (not that I've tried).

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex James sure sang "sun" a lot.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

my mate once recorded the "hey!" at the beginning of "hey" by the pixies until it filled one side of a 90-minute tape. he then walked around a small town in north yorkshire listening to it. proper mind-altering drugs were expensive in those days.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

how close together were the heys?

peter smith (plsmith), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

LCD Soundsystem - too obvious to be mentioned?

This doesn't quite count, but inspired byt the thread title, I submit The Herbaliser - 'Wall Crawling Giant Insect Breaks', which briefly repeats, well, "repeat".

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Bill Withers, "Ain't No Sunshine": "I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know."

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

If we're talking obvious, then lets go Status Quo, "Again and again"

Which has a chorus repeating "again" 8 times.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Nuclear Valdez, "Summer":

"It rained and it rained and it rained and it rained all summer /
It rained and it rained and it rained and it rained all night."

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

"Qaeda Quality Question Quickly Quickly Quiet" by Lenka Clayton has (amongst others) 14 "Terror"s in a row, and about 30 "of"s.

It is also cheating a bit for this thread, I reckon.

3underscore (___), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

how close together were the heys?

good question. the way he describes it, it was "hey!" [beat] "hey!" [beat] "hey!" [beat] ... perhaps he got adventurous 20 minutes in and left bigger gaps. or maybe that would have adversely affected the mantra-like quality. i'll ask him when i see him tomorrow.

of course, if he's still got it somewhere i'll MP3 it for your delectation :) :) :)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i've just spoken to my pal, who tells me he "also mixed up the heys with the riff from iron man by black sabbath". so there we go.
