I need a DVD that's been released since August to review for a journalism class. I've seen Before Sunset, and can't find anything else that interests me. Any suggestions?

Elf rox.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It's about a big elf.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Bad Santa (it's better than Elf)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

there is a black elf in bad santa. he's a little rude though.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

the elf in Elf is very kind.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i almost bought a doublepack dvd of troll & troll 2 the other day.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

instead of troll and troll 2 i bought:

the andromeda strain (best movie ever. even if you aren't stoned. but if you are, you are in for a treat.)

dead & buried (limited edition. i saw it in the theatre 23 years ago. still holds up! i also read the paperback 23 years ago. chelsea quinn yarbro!!!!

The Apple (Ned Raggett's favorite movie!!! He's so campy. but has he ever seen the new wave musical that udo kier made. that's a great one. i have it on vhs.)

village of the damned/children of the damned twofer. (i hesitate to admit that i have NEVER seen the sequel. i still haven't. it can't possibly be as good.)

2 rhino horror comps. 8 movies each. you know, the usual. crater lake monster, stanley, blood mania, fleshburn, the hearse, etc, etc.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

wait, it wasn't udo kier. it was that other wierdo. i'll think of it in a minute.

Fat Girl (a/k/a A Ma Soeur) by Catherine Breillat, which was rleased in 2001 and just came out on DVD this month. It's the only film I have seen in the last two decades that caused people to shout back at the screen and storm out of the theater. Ahd there were Californians.... Athough it's a far cry from Before Sunset....

That was because it had the stupidest most random ending ever.

The Apple (Ned Raggett's favorite movie!!! He's so campy. but has he ever seen the new wave musical that udo kier made. that's a great one. i have it on vhs.)

It ain't my fave movie but it's definitely my fave movie old or new I've first seen this year. Now tell me more of this new wave musical when you recall the details...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

>>That was because it had the stupidest most random ending ever.

Coupled with one of the skeeviest (most skeevy?) teen sex scenes ever and an interminable death-by-driving suspense sequence that still gives me the creeps even thought I know the random, hateful ending is coming.

mottdeterre (mottdeterre), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

That said people in SF anyway were madder, more uncomfortable at Irreversible (AND I AM DAMN SURE EVERYONE KNEW WHAT WAS GONNA HAPPEN IN THAT FLICK.) Either way neither film is worthy of a recommend.

Is 2046 the Michael Winterbottom film that got panned? Or is it the Wong Kar Wai flick?

!hah!

mottdeterre (mottdeterre), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

2046 is WKW's 5 year in the making sci-fi/retro tour de force that he rushed to get edited for Cannes (widely bootlegged) but has now settled on an alternative cut (that has been bootlegged as well).

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you have the bootlegs Mr. Gygax? And if you do can I b-b-b-borrow it from you? And if I can borrow it from you can I cover you with barbeque sauce? And if I can cover. . . um, I'll just stop there.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, but hurry, i'm going out of town for 3 of the next 4 weeks/weekends.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

also, do you have region-free player? it's region 3.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't. I'm pretty sure mine is only Region 1. :( Oh well.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)
