Since I thought it crass to review them on Pitchfork before they had a proper record out and clearly I won't be covering them on PSF let's talk about my friend's band in Boston now that The Bravery a

Here is an MP3 from their forthcoming album. I'm not out to "promote" this band in any capacity (and I'm sure they're reading this so hello all), but if the NME is going to tell you the Bravery are worth knowing about before their first EP is even available, I don't understand why nobody's mentioned this 5-member fashion spread of a band, who have played as many significant dates (some with the Bravery), but lack the PR resources of Island Records.

at least you had some standards. brett d. gave a glowing review to the reissue of Antena's Camino Del Sol despite partnering with the guy who released it to make that corey movie...

They have a bit of a following in Boston, I know a couple people who are rabid fans.

i hated it, which means they're probably going to be huge. how big depends on how good looking they are, but i can't a picture cos they've picked a particularly googleproof name.

dan bunnybrain (dan bunnybrain), Saturday, 15 January 2005 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

It's newer Snowpatrol??!?

(If you think this is a bad thing, go plant carrots.)

if you have to choose between crass and interminable defensiveness, choose crass.

Chuck Klosterman gave Fly Me Courageous some love in Fargo Rock City. Fargo's above the Mason-Dixon.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 15 January 2005 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

the first post was just to save us from more drawn-out "friends but hey critic no money changed hands check it out" thread titles (seriously, just put "Band I Know. Check it out!"). The second was some fuck-up with the D'n'C thread.

This isn't that sort of thing, though. This is a sincere question about two bands that for all intents are in the same situation and have arguably similar talents (whether they're talents or not is up to you). One has Island, one does not. One is considered the A #1 THING TO KNOW ABOUT by the NME, the other is totally unknown to the NME. What does that say about the NME, the bands and or us.

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Saturday, 15 January 2005 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

That one has Island and one does not.

Pleasant. Snow Patrol meets early Ultravox.
Think I prefer The Bravery, though. They have 4 (count them) great songs.
They are the new Strokes/Chicory Tip.

mnm, Saturday, 15 January 2005 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Drivin' and Cryin' were on Island.

martin m. (mushrush), Saturday, 15 January 2005 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

So I gather you don't expect much of the NME then, miccio.

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Saturday, 15 January 2005 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

nope
