Washington D.C. Go-go band version of Ashlee Simpson's "Pieces of Me" on the radio

I heard on WPGC in Washington DC this evening a go-go version of Ashlee Simpson's "Pieces of Me." The group had a woman vocalist, and the go-go drum beats were kinda low in the mix--it was sorta loungey. I liked the woman vocalist's voice, and the arrangement. The d.j. didn't identify who the group was. Does anybody know?

I just figured it out with google. It's Rare Essence from their recent 2004 "Live at the Tradewinds" cd.

I see on the Take Me out to the go-go website(tmottgogo.com) that there is also a live mixtape cd with Anthony Hamilton doing "Charlene" with jazzy-go-go band Lissen.

This hasn't gotten any press ink in D.C. as far as I've seen. Go-go is way underground crossover-wise these days.

Go-Go really is a great forum for cover bands. some band last year was doing a good version of "All Falls Down". it's a shame I rarely go far enough south to get a reception of WPGC or WKYS in my car.

It sure is. It's been this way for years. Few go-go bands ever seem to pen strong originals, but they manage to turn rap and r'n'b hits into something special. Years ago I used to go see go-go and rap bills at the old Capitol Centre and the go-go band would deliver the hits much better than the rappers.

That Tmottgg website and some others sell lots of live go-go cds.

whats 95.5 in baltimore, al?

peter smith (plsmith), Monday, 17 January 2005 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

93.9 =WKYS
95.5=WPGC

I thought you could kinda pick up these D.C. stations in Baltimore. Maybe not?

I still haven't heard this, but last time I was in DC I heard them talking about it on the radio at one point, it's by the Backyard Band, right? my freshman year roommate was from DC and was a big Go-Go fan and had tons of live Backyard tapes.
