From the description, this is definitely a cover of Brass Construction. There were two tracks that sampled this from back in the day, that I remember: One was on the Beans and Rice EP by DJ Sneak, and the other was called 'Get Hi' by Roger Sanchez. But the way the OP described the sample, it sounds like it might have been a straight cover, or even just the original version by Brass Construction.
I have a track I've been trying to ID for decades, and I've exhausted every avenue I can think of. It's a track from a mixtape called Let Yourself Go by DJ Mark Almaria, from 1996.
The vocal part samples Status IV - You Ain't Really Down and the instrumentation is all sampled from Eddie Kendricks - Goin' Up In Smoke.
I've been trying to ID this forever, so if someone knows it, please let me know!

wow I haven't seen that Massive logo in 25 yrs, what a flashbackdef sounds like Sneak. I hadn't given him a thought in a looooong time but just the other day pulled up a recent set of his on youtube. He's so good.

I don't think it's a Sneak record. I like some Sneak cuts — in fact, the very next cut on that mixtape is 'Keep On Goovin (Pitch Disco mix) by DJ Sneak, which is a great cut. But honestly, he was notorious for really lazy production.
Disco Dub House is pretty simplistic already, but usually the producers would mash up more than one record, or add some synth elements, or at least replay the bassline to make it more audible. But Sneak records were mostly one loop and a sampled 909. A lot of his records aren't even in stereo!
I guessed this was either a Stacy Kidd record, or something off Vibe Records or Music Plant. I haven't been able to find it, though, and I've gone through those catalogs.

I'm probably leading you down a total dead end but this does sound familar and am wondering if it might be something on Force Inc US -

I'm with you on Sneak but he'll forever be forgiven for "Show Me The Way", "Latin Seoul" and some of those Relief & Cajual releases.

ps, if it was on Force Inc US, and i'm having doubts already, it would be from 95 or 96.

Thanks, the late great. I don't even see him on FB, just other people named Mark Almaria. Are you sure it's him? Maybe you're actually friends with him.
I called Gramophone records in Chicago, and they even sent an email to Karl Almaria but never heard back. I'm turning into a stalker now but this record has become my white whale.
There's also a thread about it on Discogs if you want to show him that.
I remember a similar holy grail record at the end of an Ian Pooley tape. It was a remix of Daft Punk's 'Burnin' and no one could find it. There were all these track ID threads on different boards, and people on Youtube saying they've been searching for it for decades. Eventually someone was able to corner Ian Pooley and ask him about it personally. Turns out it was a dubplate and had never been released. This is the track. There are bootlegs of it floating around now.
