clalison arkson, Monday, 17 January 2005 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

She's doin' the do.

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Monday, 17 January 2005 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

she pens the odd ditty for notable pop bands of the modern era does she not? Girls Aloud being one example.

Stevem On X (blueski), Monday, 17 January 2005 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

and you are through! xpost now that ruined it.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 17 January 2005 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

And I'm rather afraid there's nothing you can do, Mark.

Where are you baby?
We used to have so much fun
Where are you baby?
Somebody tell Calum where she's gone....

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Are those rumours about her being in a band called Wigwam with Alex James true?

Kate Jane Connolly (fixitgirl), Monday, 17 January 2005 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The hottest woman who ever lived was, last time I heard, writing music for kids show The Tweenies (and I like to think it was possible to pick her style too). That was a few years ago though.

thee music mole, Monday, 17 January 2005 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Are those rumours about her being in a band called Wigwam with Alex James true?

Now, Miss Boo has claimed that the songs that she's been giving off to people over the years are NOT her best work, and she's been saving her best work for her comeback.

Just think about that. Betty Boo. An album of songs better than Girls Aloud's "Love Bomb". Can't be true, can it? Well, apparently the Wigwam thing is.

Certainly I'd hope the songs are better than "Pure And Simple" which she also wrote.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 17 January 2005 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Pure And Simple was a pretty good ballad though. My memory fails me, but what was the name of the failed Spice Girls copy-band who originally recorded the song?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Girl Thing! I remembered.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

A number of quite big hits originated as Girl Thing tracks, I just can't remember which ones.

I have the first two Girl Thing singles, and they still stack up fairly well.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Why do you bastards insist on trying to turn everything into a discussion about music rather than respecting Calum's right to initiate puerile and sexist threads about female musicians?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Because Betty Boo really, really deserves a thread.

TS: Boomania vs Grrr! It's Betty Boo!

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I was listening to The Beatmasters + Betty Boo last night.
God, I love that record.

coco, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I would say writing Love Bomb wipes her slate clean with regard to writing Pure & Simple, such is LB's aceness. Bring on her possible comeback.

Nick H (Nick H), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

eleven months pass...
REVIVE.

Wigwam releasing debut single "Wigwam" on March 6. Popjustice, predictably, going nuts, but surely, within reason, because - BACK! BETTY BOO! HOORAY. "Very danceable", apparently.

I am listening to "Grrr! It's Betty Boo". It is brilliant.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 9 January 2006 23:46 (twenty years ago)

At long last! I think I'm ready for Wigwamania. I know I'm ready.

Merryweather (scarlet), Monday, 9 January 2006 23:50 (twenty years ago)

Let us consider for a minute whether the involvement of Alex James is a good thing.

On the one hand: Recent Blur albums. Also, Me Me Me.

On the other hand, co-writing credits on some of Sophie Ellis Bextor's top-drawer stuff like 'Move This Mountain' and 'Love It Is Love'.

But BETTY BOO! The BEATMASTERS. I am a drooling, idiotic fanboy again!

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 9 January 2006 23:52 (twenty years ago)

B-b-but Wigwam is already a reasonably well known band! Oh pish.

Masked Gazza, Monday, 9 January 2006 23:56 (twenty years ago)

They better take TIME OUT. They are a side effect, like an aftertaste.

That brings back some memories (from my subconcious). Blimey.

fandango (fandango), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 00:06 (twenty years ago)

Wherever she is, she still can't dance to the music you're playing.

Dom iNut (donut), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 00:10 (twenty years ago)

I have seen Betty Boo Live in Concert.

Dix points!

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 17:47 (twenty years ago)

Revive AGAIN because "Wigwam" has leaked.
The intro is very "Girls & Boys". It's very, very silly. Needs a few listens, not the comeback single expected, but.. yes.

edward o (edwardo), Saturday, 14 January 2006 00:34 (twenty years ago)

Over in this corner, I've been trying to come up with as many cute-clever rhymes for Wigwam as possible, in trembly anticipation.

brittle-lemon (brittle-lemon), Saturday, 14 January 2006 02:45 (twenty years ago)

WHY! ESS! EYE!

kit brash (kit brash), Saturday, 14 January 2006 05:45 (twenty years ago)

Betty Boo and The Beatmasters - "Hey DJ/I Can't Dance (To That Music You're Playing) (Single Mix)" - 1991

( .mpthree --> .mp3, obv )

One of the best singles of the 90s, if not ever.

Dom iNut (donut), Saturday, 14 January 2006 06:30 (twenty years ago)

Edward, any chance of a YSI? ;)

carson dial (carson dial), Saturday, 14 January 2006 11:25 (twenty years ago)

Wow, this is weird. I remember this girl I knew in Manchester in 1991 (well she was from the U.S. like me, though) who asked me if I knew Betty Boo and I didn't know what she was talking about. Well it just so happened there were posters around town of that great French film entitled Betty Blue at the same time so from then on I always thought she was talking about that. Though I only saw the movie many years later.

Only now do I realize she really was talking about something completely different.

Tomato Voyeur (Bimble...), Saturday, 14 January 2006 11:37 (twenty years ago)

"pump up the record like pearl and dean".

retrogurl, Saturday, 14 January 2006 12:07 (twenty years ago)

Not quite feeling this yet, but I did just manage to pick up "Boomania" and "Grr, it's Betty Boo" on the cheap from eBay, so hurrah!

The time I met @PublicEnemyFTP in McDonald’s on Shepherds Bush Green in 87! We’d just seen them playing a Def Jam gig so went in & said hello & the next thing I know we’re rapping with them & Professor Griff is beatboxing! The restaurant manager wasn’t so keen & kicked us out! 🤣 pic.twitter.com/1yL20Uwqbj

I love that ILM misses her so much that we didn't even notice she had a new album out this week

StanM, Saturday, 5 October 2024 06:21 (one year ago)

well I only recently heard the track she did with Chuck D from a couple of years ago but couldn't get far :(

great video above tho

nashwan, Saturday, 5 October 2024 09:31 (one year ago)

Betty Boo walked so Charli could run.

bratwurst autumn (Eazy), Saturday, 5 October 2024 18:26 (one year ago)

The manager who comes to kick them out is priceless

Sade of the Del Amitri (dog latin), Monday, 7 October 2024 11:36 (one year ago)

Wasn't a huge fan of her 2022 album so I haven't made the new one a priority. Will get round to it though.

you can see me from westbury white horse, Monday, 7 October 2024 11:56 (one year ago)

Her second solo single, "Where Are You Baby?", which reached number 3 in August 1990, is her biggest solo hit to date.

i like the optimism of that line in her Wikipedia page

tuah dé danann (darraghmac), Tuesday, 8 October 2024 20:56 (one year ago)

well, WigWam wasn't solo
