backbeat was OK

Search: Bird

mcd (mcd), Monday, 17 January 2005 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember enjoying The Seven Little Foys--and, of course, The Sound of Music!

Huk-L, Monday, 17 January 2005 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

is bird really good? i've almost rented it about a dozen times but something always makes me stop

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 17 January 2005 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Bird has its moments.

xpost, yeah, I haven't seen it for years but I enjoyed it. Forest Whitaker's sax playing scenes are bunk though.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 17 January 2005 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

ess-Velvet Goldmine(a parody closer to reality than reality)
dstrx-The Johnny Knoxville Gram Parsons abortion

S: What's Love Got To Do With It?
D: The Doors

S: Genghis Blues, The Power of Sound Salad

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 17 January 2005 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, duh, S: RAY.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 17 January 2005 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I just realized how shocking it is that no one has made big-budget Miles or Coltrane biopics.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 17 January 2005 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

S: The Buddy Holly Story, Amadeus, What's Love Got To Do With It?
D: So many made-for-tv crap fests that end up on VH1

Snappy (sexyDancer), Monday, 17 January 2005 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Bird is worth watching if only for Forrrest Whittaker's performance. But the film is a bummer and doesn't celebrate Parker's music enough.

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Monday, 17 January 2005 23:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Destroy: La Bamba (except for Esai Morales' performance as Richie Valens' ner-do-well brother).

Valens actually says in this: "I'm going to be a star. And stars don't fall from the sky, do they?"

shookout (shookout), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

they shouldve pasted the audio of a plane going NYEEERRRRRR BOOM just as he said that

David Allen (David Allen), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Search: "24 Hr. Party People" (seconded, thirded or whatever)

Destroy: "Sid & Nancy", "The Doors", "Backbeat", and, like Snappy sez, every Vh1 movie ever made (especially that one about the almost-reunion between Lennon & McCartney,...sweet fuckin' Buddha that was unwatchable).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The VH1 Beach Boys and Def Leppard movies were both pretty good.

robertw, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm kinda remembering the Beach Boys one. Ended with an "ultra-soulful" Dennis going down the tubes? that one was ok.
But "Man in the Mirror"? *shudders with moral terror*

Bird is worth watching if only for Forrrest Whittaker's performance. But the film is a bummer and doesn't celebrate Parker's music enough.

The scene where Bird goes into the theater where the rock-and-roll yakkity saxman is playing to the crowd with his rhinestone encrusted horn suddenly made rock so ... tacky for me.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Do documentaries count? Theremin was fascinating.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

"The scene where Bird goes into the theater where the rock-and-roll yakkity saxman is playing to the crowd with his rhinestone encrusted horn suddenly made rock so ... tacky for me."

But it's supposed to be tacky!

Search: Hail Hail Rock and Roll

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The movie where Kurt Russell is playing Elvis is fun and it was made by John Carpenter to boot. There are a bunch of familar faces in the rest of the cast. The scene where Elvis shoots the TV has to be the origin of Snake Plissken.

earlnash, Wednesday, 19 January 2005 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

I like the one about Def Leppard a lot!
